Japan changed their porn laws back in 2015, so the legal age to be in it went from 14 to 18. Kenshin’s mangaka just happened to have a porn collection of pre 2015 teen gravure nudes. The police got a warrant to search his place after a sting operation where his name got brought up as a potential buyer of contraband porn(which they found none of). He got let off the hook by the cops but by then the western extremist left media caught wind of the whole thing and blew the whole situation out of preportion.

When did the story change from he purchased hundreds of DVDs to he had VHS tapes that were legal at the time? His court case was in 2018 when he was fined 200k yen. I didn't see anything in the 2018 articles other than him saying in court he liked the judai aged girls and articles adding "In Japan, possession of child pornography was not considered illegal until 2014." Was there a difference in Japan and global reporting?
