creator wrote a dumb contrivance in the last chapter without thinking about it so he could wrap up the manga quickly. basically stated that belldandy had been using her magic for the entire duration of her relationship with k1 to make him not want to fuck her. weebs got enraged and collectively decided to hate the last thirty years of one of the most beloved manga of all time based on that one decision.

Yea Forums was way more upset about the boner-suppressing magic thing than they were about the infidelity btw.

oh yeah it's insane for sure. it's clear it was a complete asspull that he had never thought of before that chapter and it makes zero sense and retroactively fucks over so much of what the manga stood for as well as ruining belldandy's character and destroying the trust between her and k1

my thing is just that the creator doing one stupid thing doesn't negate the years of good times i had with the series before that. if he had been leading up to it, that would be one thing. but because it was clearly not intended at all, i just ignore it. plenty of creators fumble the landing or go back and retroactively take a colossal shit on work of theirs that used to be incredible. you can either choose to hold on to that anger or choose to appreciate the good times.

Apart from the scandals, I never actually had any interest in Ah My Goddess apart from the old OVAs. They tried to reboot it several times through TV series, but it was always the same stuff. If we wanted to watch something harem related, people in the west would rather watch Tenchi or the crappy Love Hina.

Yeah, I think that's my problem with a lot of romance in fiction. It falls flat because one character is bland, or their "chemistry" is nonexistent. I wish there was more stuff that felt natural.

I prefer that they know it and are doing it anyway because they want to see the relationship succeed.
It makes sense for Urd to sabotage "God's Perfect Castration Plan" because she's half demon.
Peorth seems kind of iffy; she simply may not know that's a condition that was set on their relationship. For all we know, there are people that call in the Goddess hotline and ask for a handjob.
But Urd is definitely the type of person to sabotage God's plan.

and then I heard that it ended, so I read the ending
I missed a lot of the in-between

The dates don't match. AMG ended at April 25th 2014 and Fujishima's private life became public in 2017.
