As "dull" as Yuji is as an MC, you can't have any sense of tension with a guy like him around. They quite literally had to take Gojo out of the picture for the villains to do anything.

It could work but the angle and setup would need to be extremely different. It'd be more about mulling over the idea of being a tyrant and wiping away all the problems the Jujutsu society has as your best friend markedly points out. Could easily be a villain origin story, ending with him dying at the hands of his old friends but the world hopefully being changed for the better.

I'd say it was more collective leadership in all fairness. Jogo Mahito and Kenjaku were all able to act relatively independently, you didn't really have 1 just outwardly giving orders and calling all the shots
