>Red Flags in anime and manga

What are some tropes that don't immediately turn you off but if you see them early on you begin to suspect this is something you won't enjoy in the long run? I'll start
>The first fight of the story is a one-sided beatdown that only serves to make the MC look cool.
>MC is the only significant (Or outright only) male character.
>Character gets isekai'd as an infant.

>female cast or MC

>MC has a window seat near the back

Attached: a8b28.jpg (1031x551, 88.63K)

>has characters
>has visuals
>has dialogue
>has multiple panels (manga)
>has animation and/or sound (anime)

>show is about people with superpowers fighting each other

>Isekai
>"Cheat" in the title.

I don't think you know what a red flag implies.

Anything SHAFT
Anything high school/ junior high/ etc
anything battle shonen

This isn't a hard red flag for me, I'm somewhat flexible since I've watched series with three, four and five seasons before. Anything longer than two cours. If you can't tell a complete story in two cours, it's probably shit.

I always took it to mean "A sign of something bad to come."

>one cour incomplete adaptations
Literally just a glorified advertisement, often of dubious quality. Just read the source material.

>Takes place in a game or "It's just like a game" setting.
Often the people who write these come off as never playing a video game before.

So you prefer a blank white page or a blank black page?

>all male cast
>all female cast
Just an excuse for easy-bake gay shit. At least have the balls to do it when both sexes are around and relevant.

>System
>Statpage
>Stats
>Levels
>Skills
The author needs to be REALLY autistic and methodical to make it work, or else it devolves into "level 84738292 mook with xyz stats gets one shot by lvl1 MC and his gay little gimmick weapon/skill" type of nonsense

It doesn't have erotic little girls in it.

The workers liberation!

Isekai

This thread is shit

I'll be honest, I'm starting to get to this point too.

>MC's power is punching hard

>fantasy setting
>"levels" and "stats" exist

I feel like a game setting can work very well with hard magic systems since games themselves are defined by their rules. Still, most people who do it either come off as not understanding games or not wanting to do the leg work actually to make an interesting and well-defined system. Instead, they come off as wanting to seem like they have well-defined rules but never actually keep to those rules.

For example. I was reading this manga that took place in an MMO. Part of the story is that every time a person makes a new character, it is given a special ability. For most people, the ability is something like "5% extra damage with axes", or "+3 Agility". However, a few players are lucky enough to get a super rare and powerful ability only they have. It established that what an ability says goes and nothing can negate its effect. Coincidentally all of the top-ranked players have such an ability. And for some reason, a competitive game where RNG decides your viability is supposedly the most played in the world. Yet right after this is established, here's what happens
>Guy is introduced with the ability to be immune to all armed melee attacks.
>Much to his surprise, MC manages to cut him anyway

>MC has power
>Having powers at all

>MC gets bullied for having a "useless" power
>Power is something that is obviously useful

>made by Japanese people

>made by people.

>made

>

>OP and ED in the first episode
>OP very obviously spoils mid season twist.

>high school
>cute girls
>fantasy
>war

>idols

KUBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

This, so fucking tired of the op off the bat trend. It would be better if they didn't just use it as an excuse for slice of life but MC-kun's dick is so big compared to everyone else.

>Manhwa

>childhood best friend love interest

Genre: romcom, harem, cgdct

Yuri.

Yaoi

school about magic knights

Eh, blank black page was better.

>MC is a blank slate everyman that girls somehow find attractive

> OP likes it

> OP hates it

This, I can tolerate a lot because I love the genre but when stats and levels are introduced I turn it off immediately.

>all male cast
>all female cast

Actually based. I think I prefer this, by this point.

>school setting
>Standard Anime Protagonist

>>Character gets isekai'd as an infant.
Why is that a red flag?

I can accept self-indulgence and escapism more than most of Yea Forums can, but not when the real idea behind it is some kind of bitter megalomaniac revenge fantasy.

Several reasons
I think that Isekai is better when the character get's thrown into the deep end and has to learn about and acclimate to their new involvement quickly. Being an infant often removes that potential source of tension and drama as they are often given an entire childhood at least to get used to their new world. We also lose out on really seeing their reaction to suddenly finding themselves in another world since they initially can't do much but just sit there and wait to grow up, missing a good opportunity for characterization. On top of that, they are usually handed stability in the form of a home, identity, and support, instead of being the stranger from another world who initially has nowhere to call home, they are the child of Mr and Ms so and so and came come home whenever they want, a further reduction of tension. Another issue is that it is often used to handwave the MC's eventual over poweredness with the logic that since they have the intellect of an adult and the plasticity of a child they are going to be able to learn everything they want easily.

Now, this isn't always the case but I see these things often enough that whenever I see the MC being reincarnated as an infant the story ends up being very boring. It doesn't help that the fact that they are stuck in a child's body, for the time being, is usually never used to a decent extent.

>does porn to get people's interest (showing ass or sideboob while being clothed is still porn, faggots)
>muh friends
>power ups
>towns look like either 18th century german towns or old chinese towns
>japanese characters are not depicted as mongoloids
Basically 98% of everything coming out of Japan

>The first fight of the story is a one-sided beatdown that only serves to make the MC look cool.
Plenty of great shounen start with that though.

Wouldn't a girl be more attracted to that them an open book?
Maybe that is why these socialess MCs get all the pussy. The "mystery" of the MC is probably interesting to them.

Nah I'm jk its a story at then end of the day not real life.

hunterbros...

Skinny female soldiers is also a good one, even shit like Muv Luv is cheapened by the waifufaggotry, but I guess that's just how anime are

Stat numbers and other garbage skills just to show how threatening the next forgettable antagonist is

story sounds deep but you feel that it won't deliver, that's why i didn't read SNK

herokeks...

Go back.

you are not a happy man
