I feel like Mitsumi's going to be too scared to go through with it and be like "I-I totally didn't mean it like that, haha" and bolt off leaving him confused. If they do start dating, though, that's a big turning point in the series and will probably put Mitsumi on a lot of girls' shitlists. Not her friends' though, not even Mika's, but probably all the background ones.

I'm hoping they actually start dating but if they do they're sure to have a rough time. Shima could start feeling really guilty about how her classmates treat Mitsumi, causing a lot of drama. So far the manga has been pretty sweet so I hope the author can handle a relationship well.

Sure, but at this point I really don't see much of a way for them to backtrack from this (without shitty writing). This is an awkward confession and they both understood it as one. They know they like each other and that their feelings are mutual. How do you go back from that?
