He's presented as a schizophrenic moron in both, who decides to fuck up the entire world because he can't wait a day, and is too stupid to come up with a real plan. But the manga is going to pull some "it was all an act" somehow at the end. I can't see a way to redeem this that isn't just retarded, because the source material they're working with for this character is already retarded. Its like trying to redeem Zinnia, you just can't do it without a total rewrite of some sort.

He's worse than a villain, he's a do-gooder who's fucking stupid. People that want to save the world, in the most retarded way possible, can't listen to literally anyone because they're already sure they're right and they'd sooner see the world destroyed than be wrong, are far worse than any villain. Villain just wants to wreck shit, and are soundly beaten by the hero. But a villain who thinks they're saving the world is far worse in the long run.

Zinnia did everything out of selfishness, she kept her life but seems confined to a wheelchair from now on we don't know if she'll recover
Lysandre kept his life too and now he'll have to live with the fact that his entire legacy is not only gone his ambitions are crushed, his dream shattered and his goals unrealized he ALMOST turned the children to his line of thinking but circumstances prevented from from becoming edgelords
Ghetsis flat out cracked, the very moment he's away from whatever the pokemon world's version of federal prison is those pokemon are going to make him suffer they'll never forgive him for what he's done.

The only villains in the manga who got redeemed are Giovanni, and Cyrus, Maxie and Archie flat out died for their goals and only post death did they realize how retarded they were being but they cannot correct the errors in their lives. I suspect the only reason Rose is redeemed is because despite how foolhardy he was there was not a hint of selfishness in his goals and actions.
