I get that the series is called the Elusive samurai, but hyping up a rematch just for Tokiyuki to nope the fuck out of there in the next chapter was one hell of an anti-climax. Storywise it was a wise play, but narratively speaking it was very disappointing.

If Shokan was willing to kill him during the 3 Generals, I don't see why that would change now. If anything I expect both parties to ensure that the other is dead for good now.
While I'm at it, make him a little like Takauji too since they've both got Buddha vibes, fucked up as they are.

Makes sense, that whole arc was to show more of what battles were like in those times and set up plotlines for later (Tokiyuki having to learn strategy, clan drama for Kojiro, Sadamune suspecting Yorishige will rebel, hints on how Yorishige's powers work, Kiyohara backstory to show how the court is affected by Go-Daigo's return) but that's not that exciting to read about week to week. Looking back I can appreciate it more for building up to the current conflict.

Right, usually Tokiyuki and Takauji both have "divine composure" but Tokiyuki got so thrown off his game that Takauji won that one easily. So what Tokiyuki needs to do is upgrade his spirit power, keep his cool and surprise Takauji in a way that makes him lose that cheerful attitude, like by taking Kamakura. I like how the fantasy elements keep complementing the plot.
