2018 was actually the last hurrah for Yea Forums BD sales wars. After Kyoani, the BD salesfags have no horse in the race anymore as their highest bidder had been thrown out the picture. The dopamine rush of witnessing their favorite studio crushes other competitors with such a promising future ahead of them has long been extinguished. Even with Maidragon, they don't really care for sales anymore as most animators who've made the studio were not there anymore, even Yamada had left for Science Saru.

Sales wars were 'fun' because it's like proxy-bullying. But nobody likes to be on the bullied side.

Back then it was fun hoping for my favorite anime to get some numbers and get happy whenever they reached a goal like 5k sales which wasn't bad, or at least not horrible, or sometimes even breaking the 10k.
Nowadays every series I love sells like one frt and I have no fucking idea if it's a complete flop or somehow still a success because of 12 other variables I cannot observe.

Then it has a plot that is full of mystery but hardly any answer
The aesthetic of childrens show in a post-apocalypse setting was a clever hook

And then there was the ending which got everyone moving.
