Is Frantic actually worth giving a shot? I loved the original series, but the abrupt ending and later relaunch had me wary of giving it a shot.

Yeah, it seems to delve a bit more into social commentary from time to time which is interesting.

With everything Fran's done to her classmates, I guess they finally developed a sense of self preservation. I'm surprised there are even any left.

Frantic's first few chapters are rough but it gets back into stride after that.

They don't always like the results, but Fran only does what they request of her. That's on them.

Fun fact about this experiment, the members of it basically killed it from the inside out by deliberately emulating the pop culture ideas of hardass wardens and prisoners. Somewhat at the urging of the head researcher running the experiment.
Especially influential was the character of No-Eyes from Cool Hand Luke on the Wardens.
It didn't do as much to demonstrate the natural impulses of humanity, moreso the ability to adopt a role and take inspiration from outside sources when told to play a certain role.
