Why do so many anime torrents / bd rips use .mkv? It stutters way too much on my computer, to the point where it is impossible to watch
How do you guys watch this stuff?

is your computer like 15 years old or something?

What the fuck are you watching it on? A PC from 1999?

i dont watch anime. that stuff is weird.

I linked up two potatoes instead of just using one.
Also dust out your PC.

my computer can run fallout new vegas on medium settings
its an hp probook from 2010 but it has a pretty good amd apu
but i still can't seem to run this stuff

Unironically watch on your phone then. Your phone probably has better processors than your shitbox.

You aren't using vlc, are you?

i use a gaming laptop (portable firebomb) from 2019-ish and i have the same problem, not sure why. it stutters like a special ed kid even if i clean it.

i am but potplayer seems to stutter too?
Also potplayer has an issue with the sound as well

Maybe you're player is just trash then. I can watch .mkv files fine with mpc on my t420 with no issue.

>Your phone probably has better processors than your shitbox
it actually doesn't in my case
i'll still try it tho
i have used vlc and potplayer so far
what player do you use

i think you should change out laptops every 5 years.
what the hell is going on here, it should still be fine

its refurbished, i got it in 2019

MPV

Use this and shut up mpv.io/

Matroska files aren't videos, they're containers.
They can have multiple video tracks, multiple audio tracks and multiple subtitle tracks in one single file.
If you download an MP4 release, for example, you'll find it's either hard-subbed (i.e. the subs are burned into the video and can't be disabled) or the subs are included in an additional file, usually .srt or .ass. These releases only include one audio track too.
.mkv files are more convenient because you can switch audio and subtitle tracks at any time, without having to open multiple files.
github.com/clsid2/mpc-hc/releases

do you have the same issue as i do on vlc?
if not then there might be some other problem

>he doesn't have a $2000 PC with a 3090ti i9 9900k processor 64gigs of ram just to watch anime on

Attached: tsugumomo.jpg (1280x720, 129.8K)

Also will downloading anime torrents get me a letter from my isp?
Right now i use
webtor.io/en/

if you're using vlc try this
>preferences
>input/codecs
>video codecs
>FFmpeg
Set threads to 2. might help, but if your pc sucks no guarantee

>i think you should change out laptops every 5 years
Mine's 13 years old Acer 5739g. It can't launch big new games and overheats like once a month, but otherwise everything is still fast and smooth, from Chrome to Photoshor and Revit. I was blessed with this baby and have no idea what I would buy next.

You're obviously not tech-savy, so the best analgue that I can come up with is that mkv is a box with sweets. If you open the box and the sweets taste terrible, the problem isn't the box, isn't it?
Audio and video are contained inside of the mkv box.
Your computer is processing video and audio *inside* of the box during playback.
It's either video, audio or *maybe* some playback metadata inside the container is fubar
The latter is possible, but unlikely.
I wouldn't say that that there is not correlation, though. mkv is one of the, if not the most accepting formats ever, so chances are the shit inside the mkv containers you have trouble with would have been impossible to pack in any other container, so there is that.
Also flac is a resource intensive audio format and there is usually no hardware acceleration support.
>How do you guys watch this stuff?
Better codecs, hardware acceleration and more horsepower usually helps, but it doesn't solve the root problem.
So the most likely answer is 'on a more powerfull machine where stuttering is tolerable'.

I suggest you shrink it down to 720p h264 2ch ac3. It would run on pretty much anything.
xvid4psp to just get on with it, ffmpeg if you want a real solution.

mkv is just a media packaging format(like an archive), your pc cant stuttuer due to it, it can stutter due to the codec of the video or audio which is inside the mkv

you guys keep saying its an archive but i have no issues running mp4
>xvid4psp
Is this a converter or something?

Because mp4 isn't an archive.

yes but according to you there should be no difference in playback between mp4 and mkv
since mkv is just an archive

Funimation might.

You're so fucking dumb my dude. There are two scenarios here:
1) Somehow you have fucked specifically .mkv playback (highly unlikely). You could test this by unpacking the .mkv and burning the subs/audio into an mp4.
2) you're downloading low quality mp4 encodes of normie films designed for Brazilian PCs, which run great because they've got a single digit bitrate and 240p. Then you also download a 1080p high quality anime from subbers who give a shit and it stutters. And somehow your tiny brain has made the incorrect conclusion

Either way. Download the 720p files, and if that doesn't work use a different player. And if that doesn't work download handbrake and lower the quality yourself. And if that doesn't work stop being poor and buy a new PC.

because mkv is the best container.

I fell for 16GB is enough meme.

Haha just stream your animes bro haha

>but i have no issues running mp4
With the same content as the mkv you have trouble with? I really doubt it.
The thing is, mp4 is also the container, just like a mkv, but it's much, much more restrictive.
You can convert any mp4 into mkv without touching video or audio. Cances are, you woud have no trouble with the resulting mkv either.
You can't convert most of the mkv into mp4 without re-encoding audio and video.
>Is this a converter or something?
yep

It's enough when you have a dedicated working computer, server and gaming machine.
I wouldn't even consider anything below 32 for my only machine, though.

You're probably downloading overcompressed HEVC mini encodes on a PC without HEVC hardware playback. Try larger H264 encodes, and play them with mpv or MPC-HC. As other anons pointed out, the .mkv container has nothing to do with it.

aren't bd rips higher quality than streams?
Is there any site that allows you to stream bd rips?

Post the full filenames of one video that stutters and one that doesn't.

VLC is crap even with a decent GPU. Does that piece of shit even use the GPU? Use MPV, it has a bit of a learning curve because it's made for Linux but it plays anything even 4k smooth as hell

If you're having trouble watching high quality video then you shouldn't watch high quality video.

but i want to...

Not if you live in a free country

>chrome

i live in canada lol

It just works.

>All these people with craptops
Build a desktop you fucktards.

Portability though

chrome is such a memory hog tho

japs are shit when it comes to video files. I've never seen a jav that wasn't a 5gb mkv rip for a 90 minute movie.

That's about as good as the phone I had before I got a smartphone.

Well, it's eats a tone of resources, so that's why I mentioned it working fine anyway.

It's really not that bad. Stop devouring memes like a Yea Forumsedditor.

it is pretty bad if you have low ram

check your codecs fag

alright, OP you sound absolutly retarded, here is what you need
720 / 480 H264 8bit ACV
good luck

Take your laptop apart and re-paste it. The old thermal paste on my ancient laptop was completely solid so it couldn't perform at all. Look up guides on youtube to see exactly how its done.

Also there is a 100% chance your old computer doesn't have proper support to decode modern video files so its far less efficient than it should be.

Maybe it's time to upgrade from your 15 year old shitbox, Pedro.

Cause dumbass weebs have been incapable of putting shit into mp4 since forever.
It always has to be some dumbass file format to make shit more of a pain in the ass. It’s mkv so it should play on plex if you want to use that

thnx for the suggestion
using mpv right now and it seems to be running fairly smoothly
have some booba as thanks

mkv is a container. It's not why your shit is stuttering.
If you were going to get a letter from torrenting you would have by now for webtorrenting. You're being a leech.
die

Get a better computer. Hardware from 10 years ago plays mkv fine

Get a better computer faggot

If you don't use MPC-HC you literally don't belong on Yea Forums

>die
Why? I'm just thanking them

My pc is from around the same time and can play bdmv and mkv without problems

i'm using mpv player now and its working more smoothly

What are some good skin for Mpc and Mpv? The default UI looks like shit.
