Baki Dou 121

So the Spiny translation is finally out. How do you feel about the focus on Jack enjoying the crowd so much? Do you feel like it contradicts his previous statements about only caring about getting stronger, or do you think it makes sense with his character?

It reminds me a little of how Baki started out simply wanting to beat his father but along the way he became more like Yujiro and started to enjoy fighting.

Kinda makes sense. He is a physical fraud, and now also a mental fraud.

In a way I guess it does, personally Im a littke worried that Itagaki will drop his original motivation which I prefer a lot. I dont mind him wanting to be admired, its a pretty human and reasonable desire but I dont want it to be at the expense of his previous characterization.

Why can't he be both?
A man who is doing everything in order to became strong, and once he is finally reaching that very level, he enjoy getting admired and appreciated for how far improved

Based on the final page from the last chapter I think he still has a grudge against Yujiro and if Baki ended up making peace with Yujiro I doubt the same will happen for Jack.

I just worry Itagaki will forget about Jacks motivation being based on revenge for his mom, if that happens his arc will be almost exactly like Bakis and I'd prefer if that didnt happen. Him being happy for admiration isnt something Im against at all in itself.

I really hope this is the case.

Strong is beautiful, and anything beautiful deserves to be admired.
To be honest, I kinda like it. His goal still hasn't change, he just shifted his motivation from revenge to self-fulfillment with revenge as a bonus that he'll eventually get to it still. If anything, he's becoming more pure in mindset.

>Strong is beautiful, and anything beautiful deserves to be admired.
Very initiated

I think it might have to do with pic related. For Jack fighting and training has always been torture but if he learns how to have fun with it it might go along way towards improving his fighting capabilities.

Interesting thought! Might be something to it.

all fighters have huge egos
Baki himself pretend to care only about being stronger than his father but when Motobe implied he was stronger Baki tried to suckerpunch him

Yeah true, but they're not usually that into crowds as Jack was this chapter

user, he remembered Kinryuuzan

Ok maybe not "forget" but maybe ignore

Considering it's not uncommon for fighters to become stronger and stronger through time, do you think Dorian when we saw him was stronger than when he created that tunnel with his hands and feet?

I feel like its implied that he degraded since then

makes sense

he doesn't have true power like baki so he desires it partially because of that lens of understanding the envy of power

he probably degraded since we have been told in baki that even the very best fighters have until about 65 before they start trending down.

Could you exapand on this? I dont really get what you mean.

Do we know how old Dorian is?

i mean out of everyone of hte main cast jack is fake. he acknowledges he has sacrificed his lifespan and will have various problems later

he doesn't have the same real power as all the rest of the main cast. so he understands being a "Fan" because he has always compared himself negatively

he understands and worships that desire to be like the best, like fans do. now he feels he is finally there no matter where it took

this scene of jack taking in the crowd is probably imo one of the best ever scenes in baki

gotta be 65+ from looks

realistically what are jacks chances against baki?

Poor Jack.

I still feel like its hard to say, like on the one hand I dont see why Itagaki would set up this rematch if its going to be a stomp, but on the other hand Baki has been above him and everyone else for so long

He's a pretty hot senior citizen

oh he's about to get 1hit by baki btw. part of his body is going to break. that's my prediction

so this was literally "the" peak of jack. he got an arc win, which is huge

I dont get what you mean. How is it mental fraud?

Man I really dont hope so. I hate to see Jack being down. This is one of the reasons Im worried about all this stuff with enjoying the crowds love and him being too much like Baki, Im scared its going to be releaved that he had a terrible childhood with his mom to, that she never was kind to him.

Based on chapter 121 raws I think its likely we're going to see other stuff between this and his rematch with Baki.

almost everyone in baki is hot

for me, it's biscuit oliva

>jack is fake
Why? Using drugs isn't considered fake or anything like that by any character in the story.
>he doesn't have the same real power as all the rest of the main cast
There's no such thing as "real power" and he is capable of using martial arts like aikido.

>I hate to see Jack being down.

that's why this was so great. this moment is what jack lived his entire life for. I feel happy for him/cheering for him in a way I never did before

it doesnt matter about your childhood or whatever when you achieve your entire lifes work. he defeated a man that is literally a legend, more ghost than man

>There's no such thing as "real power"

Baki, the main protagonist of the story, and ogre, the main antagonist of the story, would probably say otherwise.

Baki literally said the opposite in maximum torment arc.

I have to disagree user, I think childhood matters a lot, I really dont want Jack to have had a bad one like Baki. It would feel terrible for me if we found out Jack has been so devoted and ruined his body because his mom never approved of him.

Based

i can't feel bad for jack after this. most of the main characters of baki have not won against the antagonist of an arc

Yujiro isnt always right

>Yujiro isnt always right

Bullshit artist!

Jack unironically stomps everyone except Baki. He has always been portrayed as the second strongest of the Cast, only behind Baki. Unless he get a power-up while fighting him or something, he will certainly lose against him. Still, I do think he isn't that far behind, I'll say he's even stronger than Pickle.

Honestly I agree. If Jack gets his demon back, Pickle will be relegated to what Oliva was before Sukune olivad him.

always remember that baki is rock paper scissors
>beats sukune
>would lose to Gaia

I guess we just feel differently

I don't see people bring rock paper scissors a lot in these threads even tho it's an aspect that very much exists in baki.

Kek

I love Doyle

JACK will get the demon back
JACk will beat Baki

JACK will get a backstory that shows his mom loves him very much

I find that very plausible. I do not look forward to seeing people call Pickle lame and a loser. He is a sweet boy and like Oliva deserves better from fans.

His teeth will turn into a demon face

Diane clearly loved him, she kissed him when he was an ugly turdbaby still covered in afterbirth.

I cant even mentally picture how that would look

Hope Baki and Jack talk some more next chapter. Sucks that its break next week.

>wildfag

>Sucks that its break next week.
I'm starting to worry about Itagaki
The breaks are getting longer and more frequent

Eww wild fag

I dont even want to think about him being unwell. I hope the breaks are just for relaxing and not because he's ill.

He seems to look healthy in recent photos
But he is getting quite old
Wish I could give him immortality, I want to read Baki forever

Raws be out 'n' shit

>Did student exchange in Korea
>Forced to study Korean hard the whole time I was there
>Forgot all of it as soon as I left because I don't normally have any Korean language in my life
>10 years later and I'm kicking myself for not practicing Korean after I left, since I'd get to read Baki a day or two early

Ah,pardonne moi, it's 'leaks', right?
I studied French for 8 years and Latin for 1 and i don't know shit. I recognize pretty much every word, but i barely understand any. Though, if i sat down i'd be able to get back to speed pretty quickly. I'm assuming Korean is no different.
