It still holds up.
Also, is it possible to talk about this show without comparing it to Bebop
It still holds up

It's better than Bebop, mainly because Bebop tries too hard to be deep.
I really like Mugen as a protagonist. What other animanga have an MC that's just an asshole?
most of the nasuverse
Mugen is a great protagonist. I like how his last opponents are just people he fucked over in the past he doesn't even remember. Makes sense that being an asshole catches up to him in the moment he is being selfless.
He really is. Almost all dick protags usually redeem themselves or have other qualities and excuses for their behavior.
Mugen didn't, he was just a terrible, unapologetic person.
his carefree nature and badass form made me interested in his character
What's your favorite episode? pic related, though the blind woman episodes were really nice too
He was terrible, and violent, and a dick. But he did have the ability to create bonds and his massacres were more based on emotional outbursts than on malice. He fits perfectly in the role of the antihero, whereas I have trouble imagining him as a villain despite all the crap he has pulled.
I'm kind of split between the final episodes, the episodes in which Mugen reunites with the people from the island he grew up in, and I have a soft spot for Jin's love story with that concubine.
Blind Woman for serious shit. Baseball for the laughs.
>spoiler
Not with an OP like that
Jin is arguably a bigger asshole
>cares more for perfecting his swordsmanship than having friends
>always acting stoic
>annoyed by everything
Say what you will about mugen, but as long as you're not on his bad side he won't fuck with you
I liked the message of the "ogre" episode, I was thoroughly pleased with the gay oatku episode, the tagging episode was comfy, the episode where Mugen btfo's his old crew was awesome, and the zombie episode should've never happened.
>as long as you're not on his bad side he won't fuck with you
he absolutely will
dude went on a rampage just because he wanted to fuck some whore
He'd slit your throat for looking at him the wrong way or if he wanted your money. Or clothes. Fuck, he'd probably kill you for NOT having anything to give him.
He literally did not give a fuck about anything.
Ok but who’s hotter
I think they should've died at the end. Felt kinda forced to have everyone survive
What does it say about me that I prefer Jin to Mugen?
Shut your whore mouth fujoshi and stop coming in my baki thread.
Okay I'll change what I said, unless you're a woman or someone as versed in martial arts as Jin, then Mugen won't fuck with you.
Jin, he's a man of intelligence and autism. He's literally me
They excel in different things, people needlessly compare them because they're both Wantanabe shows.
>zombie episode should've never happened.
Honestly can't even remember the episode. I know i disliked it the first time i watched it and just always skipped over it since. I should give it another rewatch.
You like used goods... And use glasses
The censored english dub is fantastic, was their ever a proper release with that audio?
Feels like a misuse of the term anti-hero to apply it to mugen. Anti-heros usually have heroic objectives and use un-heroic means. Mugen has no such objectives.
the mushroom scene at the beginning was funny but yeh, it's the only "bad" episode in the anime. it just dragged on
>or someone as versed in martial arts as Jin, then Mugen won't fuck with you.
nigger literally tried to slash jin the first time they met
America-jin... America-jin...

Love the music for this scene
I hated the ending when I first watched as a teen. Watched it again as an adult and it resonated with me way more.
anti-hero doesn't mean "hero but dark and haunted by their quest", it instead refers to a main character thats lacking in heroic virtue. A huge coward like Rincewind is as much an anti hero as a cruel bastard like D. Sneider, as is an aimless loser like Spike Spiegel, as is an illiterate short tempered bumpkin like Mugen, as is a delusional wackjob like Don Quixote
every byronic hero is an anti hero but not every anti hero is a byronic hero.
What's weirder is that space dandy did the same thing. The end result wasn't as bad since they went down a more
>horror movie route
a la dawn of the dead, but it was still one of the weaker episodes. I don't remember too much from the champloo zombie episode aside from the group getting fooled by the zombies/ghosts that they could find treasure but it was just a burial ground. then everyone dies
I said Jin in reference to their bond by the end of the series and that he was the only one who Mugen couldn't beat. Jin was shown to be in a slightly higher league than Mugen throughout the series since he's perfected his style verses mugen who's style is too erratic to hone.
What did you like and not like about the ending?
when I was younger I was just mad that they split and didn't really get it
When I watched again it felt much more in line with the show. It pretty much ended where it began, but with all the characters having changed for the better because of meeting each other.
I felt the same way, but I think that's the mark of having great characters. I choked it up to, "wow what a shit ending" which was my cope. Refusing to accept that their journey had come to a close.
The one with Rodriguez the .
Easy.
I wonder under what circumstances Jin would date Mugen
Maybe to find a closer way to kill him
Live-action when?
>It still holds up.
why wouldn't it? If it was good then, why wouldn't it be good now?
There is this weird mental retardation that old things are suddenly bad. Nevermind that we are long past the peak of film and animation which happened decades ago.
Some shows don't age well, but some you can tell are timeless.
What the hell that's perfect! Then when they're in bed together, after some rough intercourse, Mugen goes in for the kill after a sick head spin before Jin stops him by a swift peck on the cheek.
Fujos are a disease
Yeah, looks like there's one amid the thread. Keep your eyes peeled for faggots user.
Never hopefully
I swear... I always get stuck with it
I remember about that gay assasin that was hired to kill Jin and implied he'd come back later. Watanabe said he forgot about him kek
There was too much talking. Some scenes were funny and the ending got me to laugh because of how little a fuck it gave. But yeah, it's so disconnected you can just skip it and not miss a thing. Coming on the heels of the Sara episode only makes it look worse.
legendary soundtrack youtube.com
Yeah, I love it.
Mugen gets the urge to kill someone simply because he thinks that guy is stronger than him.
Mugen is a way bigger asshole. It's not even close.
FUCKING BASEBALL
This sequence is absolutely beautiful: youtube.com
I really hated how many fake deaths there was
GET UP GET UP
WALKING
SLEEPING
There were quite a few, the more I think about it.
...
>What other animanga have an MC that's just an asshole?
Bastard!!
Samurai Deeper Kyo (well, 1/2 of a character at least since he shares a body with a moralfag)
Murcielago
Needless
Chimamire Sukeban Chainsaw
Everyone was probably expecting a more open ended pseudo-sequel baity "and the adventure continues" ending too, instead of the definitive book closing one we got.
this anime was popular but it wasn't everlasting. it had the japanese aesthetic which is an important factor in making an anime really hot (ie. demonslayer, naruto, jjk), also has an american style and caters to international audiences, sick soundtrack, had swords and fights yet no-one talks about it anymore
