What series did you think was great when you were younger but now realize isn't and why?

Bonus points if it's more than one series.

Dragon Ball
LotGH
HxH
One Piece

The Soultaker

Gundam Wing

Everything

pic unrelated

all the edgy stuff like elfenlied

Anything without loli.
When I was young, I thought there could be good and enjoyable things here and there. Plot, characters, worldbuilding, interesting or fun ideas to explore, and so on. I thought those were important, and could directly affect my enjoyment, increasing it the higher their quality was.
But now I understand. I can see it clearly.
I only care about little girls.

Calm down Mr.Kimura

Exact opposite with Dragon Ball for me. Reading the manga made me appreciate how fucking funny it was and how well choreographed the fights were.

yeah. i was about to be very offended by the picture choice of OP.

GTO just gets better with the years.

None, everything that was great when I was younger is still great

I don't like how the anime handled Miyabi yeah.

I think OP was using the picture because he's very suddenly realizing something he finds unpleasant (such as "this anime i really liked is actually shit!")

For me, it's a little show called "Gad Guard". Just watch it, I can't really tell you why it's shit with any brevity.

probably heaven's lost property, used to find it hilarious and Tomoki chibi sequence running around and screaming at everybody was entertaining
started rewatching it recently and couldn't get past 8th episode because it felt like a snoozefest and I didn't like how the series turned tones by the end of the season
nevertheless the gunfare shootout is probably one of the funniest moments from the series

Based cunnysseur.

What the fuck, I'd swear this exact scene is in Spirited Away.

bleach

OP here, that's exactly what it is. Not shitting on GTO.

I personally, used to think that Jojo was the best piece of entertainment to ever exist. Spielberg eat your heart out, Ano can go fuck himself, Scorcese should go jump off a cliff, to me a few years ago, Jojo's Bizarre adventure was the best damn thing to ever come out of human culture.
Now, its a solid 7/10, would not watch again.

only super is fan fiction, OG DB still kino

digimon, i used to think they were the coolest fucking shit. It's fine, i can always rewatch the first 3 movies and my nigga dorumon.

Every year I find something more to hate about Elfen Lied

Forgot to explain why exactly.
As I started to watch more than just basic shonen and anything marketed at people under the age of 16, I started to realize how unfocused most of Jojo was. It kinda felt as if it was lumbering along, with not much of an idea of what it was doing. I will say that I really liked part two, but I believe that was because it completely believed in it's absolute fucking bullshit, which I can't say about the other parts.

Attached: charposting_2.jpg (750x563, 82.11K)

dbz
fucking awful pacing, mad filler, shitting on a funny adventure series (db) to make it a gay muscle men power level fighting series and shoving 90% of the cast up toriyama's ass
as well as perpetuating the worst shonen troupes and ruining other series like yuu yuu hakusho
saint seiya should also not get any of the praise it does, you can tell it was animated on a shoestring budget and kurumada couldn't write a consistent story to save his life

Yeah, that seems like a reasonable assessment.

Anything Yoh Yoshinari had a hand on, that extands to Trigger's bullshit too

I watched classics like tokyo majin and coyote ragtime show, the latter got some good bitches

Attached: images (10).jpg (650x363, 34.05K)

evangelion
cant stand shinji whining like a little bitch

Lain. Too edgy.
I have a good time watching FLCL but honestly it's just okay.

i thought RAVE was the coolest shit when I was 12-13. came back to it as an adult, back when Fairy Tail started, and realized it was just awful. Great ideas for abilities, decent art, abysmal in every other respect. not one single fight made even a lick of sense. new concepts introduced and forgotten within the same fight, out of the blue. things done for absolutely no reason that contradict the stated purpose of the character's goal.

if you want to get into writing, read RAVE/Rave Master. you will learn, deep in your heart of hearts, what not to do.

i remember that. a shame, really wasted good character designs and soundtracks.

That's sad

Death Note
12 y. o. me considered it masterpiece. Decided to read it again this year. Now it's just shit.

Used to be obssessed with cute girl anime a few years back mainly due to following Digibro. Later got into older anime and now I seek anime with good plot, characters and aesthetics. My current favorite is Ashita no Joe.

Shaman King

rakudai kishi but the inverse
I realized it was even better than I thought

>Thinks he's too good for JoJo while postong Gundam and not even the good Gundam.
It's years too eaely for you to apprecoate Shonen kino.

Attached: jojo-ova-jotaro.gif (498x373, 2.75M)

Like seriously how are you gonna call JoJo meandering and uncfocused while posting Gundam of all things? It took 5 episodes for White Base to reach earth and 15 episodes to reach Jaburo and evey episode is the same.
Amuro Oh no enemy mobile suit! Send the Gundam! Cue 5 minutes of Gundam fighting! Cute 1 minute stock footage transformation end episode.

This. The Dragon Ball manga is really good.

Ergo Proxy and Monster.

Evangelion. It only works when you're an angsty teenager.

Fuck you, angeloid love forever ;_;

Monster seemed too try-hard even when I was a teenager, but Ergo Proxy is a show that I can actually appreciate more now that I've read a bunch of shit about Judaism and Gnosticism. I just wish it wouldn't be namedropping things constantly.

Ergo Proxy doens't really name drop a lot I don't know where this meme come from. Did people get it confused with Psycho pass?

wing is almost unwatchable for me, g is a pretty difficult watch but I get enough glimpses of actual good direction for it to be alright. When I was in my 20s a friend tried to get me to watch Chobits with him and I couldn't handle it at all. He may have watched it as a teen but I just couldn't deal with it. Gurren Lagann is a hard watch too but at least it looks good.

Mobile Suit Gundam, Haruhi and Evangelion just got better as I got older. Saw Project A-Ko for the first time recently and I was floored by how good it was. Even if the story itself was trash I could a crazy amount of effort went into animating it.

Well that makes sense, almost every anime has terrible writing.

I will admit, I watched the OVAs years after and they were honestly pretty good
>Posting Gundam
I just think Char's cool, that's all

Attached: charposting_3.jpg (1020x1447, 595.1K)

I used to think Yea Forums was a fun and interesting place to discuss anime and manga. Now I hate it but I can't leave.

I recently rewatched the anime for the first time in years and concluded that I vastly prefer the TV version of some arcs, mainly the 22nd Budokai and Piccolo.

it just insists upon itself

RAISON D'ÊTRE
RAISON D'ÊTRE
RAISON D'ÊTRE
RAISON D'ÊTRE

Yea Forums is the worst place to discuss anime and manga, except for all the other places

>I just think Char's cool, that's all
That's very understandable. But what's your taste like? You supppsedly had a radical shift in taste. What do you like now?

Yeah that's just a franch sentence that the anime appropriated and objectified in cool anime fashion.
But it's not like psycho pass where it's all Pascal said... Rousseau said....ect

None, I always had patrician taste.

All of them except my favorites
I won't elaborate

Elfen Lied stands out to me in particular.

Particularly the last arcs and aizawa.

>It took 5 episodes for White Base to reach earth and 15 episodes to reach Jaburo
why is this a problem
>and evey episode is the same
oh ok you're retarded

Saint seya when it aired in the 90's in my country..
The series could be called hyperbole the manga. The characters move at light speed but can barely go up some stairs in a hour. They have attacks that could destroy universes that can barely scratch a unarmored opponent (and always end in a uppercut for some reason). They are super fast and strong and are overwhelmed by normal animals (crows, wolves you name it).
The plot is also super shit and when I finally got the chance of looking at the manga it was even worse. Kurumada don't know how to draw.
Overall, I managed to convert a few friends to my point of view when i muted the shit dialogue hyping x and y attack and made they see that everything seem to be a build up for a shit upppercut.

gundam 0079 is a fucking masterpiece you dickhead

It's true though there are decent story beats including Amuro's breakdown, Amuro meeting his father (my favorite), Sleggar but don't pretend it's not a lot of janky Gundam fight scenes, stock footage transformations and Tankman between those beats.

>mfw I remember I left the stove on

WAAAAAAAAAAAH YOU SAID A THING ABOUT GANDAMU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA DELETE THIS THREAD NOW I CAN'T COPE

Attached: mpc-hc64_2022-04-03_10-54-26.png (143x164, 49.96K)

Exactly the opposite for me. First time I watched Lain I thought it was bad and a waste of time. Now it's one of my favorite anime series.

Aight, I'm down, I ain't got a 3x3 made so I'll just list em out
>Golgo 13
> Kino no Tabi (2005)
>Sakamoto Desu Ga
> Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji
>Higurashi no naku koro ni kai
>Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu
>Haibane Renmei
>Touhai Densetsu Akagi
>Noir
>Boogiepop (2000)
As for the before times, imaging asking r/anime what their favorite shows are, I kid you not
During your Pic related, wasn't there like a thirty second sequence of Amuro eating a piece of white bread

I've gotta go now, I think, I hope all y'all have a wonderful day

Impressive mix of good and shit taste
