Maybe a bunch of this stuff is just in my head but I thought that she was empathic character with a strong sense of duty, or at least of obligation. She showed empathy with the angels for their loneliness but still killed them because they endangered her fellow pilots and the people at NERV. She was also trying to get that just agreeing with what people want isn't to make them happy, and that people have conflicting wants. I think a big part of her autism is being a literal ayy lmao god shoved in a clone body.
