Personally, I find Gon's adult transformation and subsequent battle with Neferpitou to be quite unrealistic. You're telling me he went through all of puberty in an instant and his first thought wasn't sex? Gon's level of self control there borders on parody, far surpassing characters like Luffy or Goku. That's just who she did love. She was only alive a couple months, and we saw her understanding what it meant to care for another individual, thus her genuinely feeling sorry to Gon for killing Kite, despite the fact she had to try and kill Gon after.
