I gotta say, when we started this arc, I did NOT expect this many callbacks to Skypiea

Skypiea, as kino adventure as it was, always kinda felt like the most 'filler' of One Piece arcs. Outside of the Poneglyph / Roger's message, none of it really impacts the events in the Blue Sea below like most other arcs involving Shichibukai or the WG do. It doesn't even add any new crewmates, you could skip it entirely and not even be lost in the overall story.

But now it looks like it might have been a lot of set up for this stuff with Nika

I think she’s going to join, to me it just seems like where the story is heading. Her situation is much different than Rebecca or Shirahoshi, she specifically wants to go out to sea with Luffy and has since we met her in a series about following your dreams
