What in God's name is this shelf? And why is one of the books the wrong way around?

Imagine buying all this shit. You belong on Booktube with the women because it's obvious you're only interested in how your books look on your shelf.

>spending $2000 on ugly editions

New folios look mostly like Barnes and noble sweetwater press flame press shit

Who wrote "Homer Iliad"?

This whole shelf was like 150 max, and cost me about the same to build it

They look cheap and obnoxious, like something a nigger would find luxurious

Many were a dollar or so

Attached: PXL_20220506_001527547.jpg (3840x2160, 2.35M)

Obnoxious.

I'm a newfag i only have like 10 books

When will mods range ban this spammer?

I bet you've read 0% percent of those and only buy them because they're old and cheap despite not actually being worth even a dollar in the information contained therein. You absolute queer.

Oh, would this be more to your taste? Tradnies

I just think the FEL Great Gatsby was a better investment than a Folio copy that looks like an eyesore.

Attached: gatsby.jpg (2080x1168, 1.16M)

Despite the transperson on the cover of yours, I do like that one, it's definitely a classic by now. I respect Folio Society for commissioning new artwork, and trying to do something fresh. I think it looks nice

Poorfag philistine cope. You will never know the feeling of a pristine, sewn, illustrated hardback in your hands.
>I WILL spend hundreds of dollars on books I could read for free
>I WILL spend time appreciating the look, feel, smell, and illustrations
>I WILL buy books much faster than I can possibly read them
>I WILL NEVER buy a paperback

>I WILL NEVER use an ereader
Seethe. Cope. Wipe your tears with your $3 secondhand paperback's pages. I am NEVER giving in.

Sounds like you're missing out buddy.

More than half. I just live close to a massive used bookstore and I'm excited that I can own books now that we have a house. You shouldn't feel so angry. I just really enjoy books.

This one is used and I like it.

I agree with all of this unironically and I will still never buy a Folio edition. I just either focus on quality sewn hardbacks, aesthetically pleasing collections, goatskin Bibles, and otherwise go searching eBay's "antiquarian books" section while omitting everything after 1950; bonus points if the edition was printed before 1900.

Go check out goodwill distribution centers. I go there on occasion and get lots of 19th century books for .59 a lb, but the place is swarming with resellers and criminal types. I bought lots of first editions for nothing

That sounds so gay it hurts. You nerds need to listen to yourselves.

You will never know the joy of receiving a two-thousand-dollar Folio Haul.

Ok I’m taking the foliopill

Just so it can take up room? You realize that's absurd right?

Fellas, folios are nice, and do have better editions than Easton, but they're a bit overpriced and gawdy now. Older folios are great.

The best part of buying from Folio is that 5% of every purchase goes to charities supporting Trans Rights.

Honestly, true. I am not against e-readers, but I have room in the new house I just bought with my beautiful wife and darling children.

>I agree with all of this unironically and I will still never buy a Folio edition.
Why? I agree a lot of them are ugly (I don't know how they can sell those abominable Tolkien books), but they definitely have some nice ones. I've never seen a more gorgeous edition of Alice in Wonderland than theirs, and their Dracula is also very nice. Just stay far far away from their extortionately priced limited edition garbage.

>take up room
I don't live in a closet.

Bask in the warmth, comfort, and cozyness of my shelf. Let the anger leave your body and relax amongst the books.

The murder weapon

Why not fill up that space with books you actually like? I realize you probably live in a big house of your own, but the fact that you *don't* know of enough ACTUALLY GOOD titles is telling of your midwittery.

Incredibly tacky in both aesthetic quality and title selection

>Why?
Never worth the price. I've seen two Folios out in the wild, Art of War and Aesop's Fables, and both were stiff, too tall, and seemed disappointing. The copyright page/preface to Art of War seemed to indicate that the text came from an edition that originally had parallel Chinese text and they removed it without reason, which automatically makes it a lesser edition versus what it was derived from. For as cheap and shitty Easton Press can be by just copy-pasting an existing text layout into a bonded-leather cover (I'm thinking specifically about how the copies of the Iliad and Odyssey I have from them are literally just the original Viking Press layout on thinner and taller paper--nevertheless, these editions were cheaper than Folio's editions of the same books and look nicer), at least I know Easton isn't removing any content.

I read books that inspire me to do great engineering work, and make the world a better place. Why do you read?

To read about our Lord.

I grew up a bit poor, my dad was a typical boomer who maxed out credit by made 6 figures because he worked 70hr weeks. He would go out and buy "nice" things, but had no sense of subtle taste. Like Russian oligarchs or real estate agents.

Anyway, I moved away, got overeducated, moved amongst a more rarified crowd as an adult. I've been in nouveau riche homes and the homes of the idle wealthy. Both throw money away on cars, jewelry, And booze. The people with taste have aldus mantuas and old printings of rare books, the nouveau riche have Easton press, law, medical books, and such

Unironically, thanks for sharing user. I bought this stuff because I like collecting things that have given me joy at various points in my life. These are hard-wearing editions, and I think I will enjoy handling them and reading them both myself and with my two daughters.

I pay .75 to $15.00 for folios. Easton's are a flat 25.00 at my bookstore. There is an antiquarian who sells Easton's in categories and on special. He said they all go to stagers!

Never buy entirely from one publisher. A wall of Folios looks terrible, as do walls of nothing but Easton or Loeb or Library of America, etc. Have taste, buy selectively, and utilize bookends to divide sections.

Seething without any actual reason for it. The only criticism they can muster is pathetically petty. Go dye your hair and do the commie cope, fags.

Shelf threads are for people to post one picture and leave. You, on the other hand, will spam 50 pictures of your disorganized shelf instead of having the decency of posting one and letting discussion happen.

I'm a different person, user. You're getting confused — lay off the tranny hypno. While your comment now and the prior one calling the for the jannies on that guy are excessively womanish, you will never BE a women.

I like Plotinus
