You can often spot an American book from the gilded age. It has a certain quality to it that you won’t find in books made in Great Britain.

I found this at my university library yesterday.

How is Narnia? I know it's YA and Christian, but how is the story? I enjoyed his space trilogy and was thinking about picking it up, especially now that I have a child.

Haven’t read it yet. Like most of the people on Yea Forums I’ve probably only read about 30% of the books I have. I imagine Narnia is quite charming though, if you can get into the right frame of mind for it.

Academic, studied French as a child, through college, and read it still because it's easier than German and I can't read Russian.

I understand the instinct, and I'm delicate with the older editions, but they're also cheap in the us. Two of these were free and the rest were under 25.00. that Montaigne was 19.99.

I'm happy to know that readers of french in America can also appreciate and afford these wonderful books. They sometimes go for a 100 euros each in France ! Traditionally binded books feel warm and alive, and this collection truly has a special soul.
