It gets worse when you consider that Fuutarou actually was in love with lolikano for years entirely because of interactions with other quints and Raiha saying that yes he was in love, but we never see him reflect on that or even acknowledge not after 7GB when he got over lolikano, not even past SE when he fell in love with present Yotsuba lolikano now being in the past and less important.
The ~mystery~ is not en excuse here, Negi simply dropped the ball here and forgot to write Fuutarou. In the end there never was any realization from him that he loved Yotsuba (or Lolikano), he simply spent months thinking it over arrived at his answer off screen and then decided to reveal his choice at the festival. If he wanted to Negi could have revealed it in a flashback but not even that either, the flashback we did get was mostly copypasted dialogue from their shared scenes.

Been saying this for two months now, manga took a drastic turn once Yotsuba's pity party started. It's kind of ironic that before ch.90 Itsuki (editor's choice) was the face of the manga and it was great, then Yotsuba's flashback came and itsuki and Yotsuba (editor and negi's choice) become the face and manga became mediocre and finally in vol.14 Yotsuba(negi's choice) was made the face and it was a disaster. Coincidence? I think not. Negi is not a genius, his editor was.
Yotsuba is underdeveloped and her asspull healing does not justify it. Let this sink in, negi had an entire volume of content on his hand to gradually heal her, but decided against it.
Reason? Her existential crisis and self worth are done just for the purpose of gaining pity from many and it worked like a charm. Negi himself doesn't know how to fix her so he reverted to timeskip. With these problems, negi gained many new fans because he was doing something not every mangaka do in harem genre. But, he dissapointed many because there was no proper remedy to her issues. (All talk no show situation)
Yotsuba's love for Fuutarou is borderline obsession.
Yotsuba's happiness and unhappiness is totally dependent on Fuutarou. This is a co-dependent relationship and it's unhealthy. Ofcourse this was again fixed by timeskip.
Yotsuba is the real snek. She kissed him under the bell while knowing her sisters like him. People try to excuse this by saying it was an accident, her action prior to kissing him suggest otherwise. Even Negi have no justification so he left it open for interpretation.(this debate will go on forever)
Also, her festival kiss was made on a sleeping Fuutarou who was defenseless and vulnerable. Atleast the other kisses by her sisters Fuutarou could refuse. So this was the cheapest form of kiss.

Ichika has two chapters filming at his workplace, too early for the SE realization, then when she quits school and Fuuts goes after her but that's way past SE. Seems to disregard the Snake incident especially after she tells him it was all a lie.
Nino confesses directly before the onsen trip, he is shown dealing with her change of heart by the first SE chapter. Fuuts fails to recognize her in the onsen without any disguise, or the bell kisser. He comes to terms about her feelings right after SE and is ready to give her an answer there, could have worked for a "but I already love someone else" except we know Fuutarou didn't have the slightest idea by then so that means he was realistically going to give her an "I don't hate you" noncommittal response to Nino saying she knew he did not like her that way.
Miku fails at getting through to him for the longest time but he comes to terms with what what she meant with the valentine chocolates post Nino confession aka the SE arc, further confirms it with the hug but he wouldn't address her feelings again until way later in the pool. After SE she takes some time to get through to him again with the bread date, he was about to answer promptly to it that being his second time being confessed to.
Yotsuba has the swings date neither of them considered a date and that Fuuts would consider a special place going there casually later on, several months before SE. In last exam they talk on the giant wheel in the same chapter that he goes on the haunted house with Nino, fiairly weak put next to the thanksgiving date but is closer to SE. Nothing in SE apart from quickly figuring out Yotsuba, then fails at identifying her as the bell kisser. After SE the next time they talk is about Miku, Yotsuba saying she will support him no matter who he picks which is apparently his thing.
Itsuki is the BFF, she in turn successfully bottled up her feelings exactly like she said Yotsuba to NOT do.
TLDR: SE was forgotten by Negi.

There are some things that cannot be explained at all. Like for example the last panel in . Why did Negi add that comment? It makes it look like there is very little romantic love between them. They act exactly the same they acted in chapter 20-30, long before Fuutarou fell in love with her.
But the weirdest Negi's flex is this page. For some reason Negi decided to point out in the previous chapter that Yotsuba still called him Uesugi-san even thought they were dating. Then in the next chapter Negi makes a very strange implication that it took Yotsuba 4 years of dating to switch to a first name basis. Why? What was Negi trying to show us?
