Why do you keep making Yea Forumstard bait threads after all this time? Kill yourself, yurihater.
Because it was shit.
It’s not rocket science
It was simply too good for this world. It'll maintain a cult following, and people will discover it from time to time.
Because it was just flat out boring. Girls were hot, that's about its only saving grace.
Truly the Alien 9 of our generation.
Thats a very apt way to describe it.
really felt
Yuri-fags kept calling it gay and that's what pushed people away. I couldn't care less if the characters are actually gay, that wasn't the point of the show.
I doubt that had any impact on how much money it made and thus flopping, but it certainly made it a shit series to discuss.
threads on Yea Forums were pretty good while it was airing due to all the insane theories that were brewed
Because the plot definitely wasn't a metaphor about Cocona coming out of the closet, among other things. Not at all.
I never said it wasn't about that, only that blindly declaring a character to be one thing is missing the mark so badly I couldn't even find the stomach to laugh.
It was definitely about something like that, in one way or another, as well as relationships in general that could be attributed to people of all kinds, but I never saw it as being strictly just about that. When you have characters who's sexualities can be interpreted to be different things by different viewers, the fact of whoever Coconut or Paprika wants to screw/love is going to end up being less relevant than the overall message the show tries to teach. I don't care if Cocona wants to suck her best friend's toes on a long night, all that matters is that it's various messages were endearing and well-crafted with how they were presented. If I could forget everything about Flip Flappers and watch it all again, I would do it twice.
Adolescent homosexuality/romantic love can be seen to be one of the themes, yes. It doesn't change that t/u/rds are annoying.
I remember the plot went to shit in the last episodes like most seasonal original anime
You remember very wrong.
FliFla is one of the very few anime that keep themselves consistently good from start to finish
You made it sound as if it was yurifags wearing their goggles. Shitposts are inherent to this place and singling out yurifags when their shitposts are by far some of the tamest on Yea Forums is just silly.
Their relationship was at the absolute center of the narrative and the sexuality an important aspect of it. Calling Flip Flappers 'gay' is factually correct. The same story could not have been told if either of the characters was male.
Because they spent all their budget on concept art and everything else was shit.
I wasn't talking about yurifags just on Yea Forums, chief, I was talking about them in general. Like, all over the web. It made it a shitshow if you wanted to talk about whether or not the characters were in cahoots because you'd have these shrieking banshees raiding your forums. Yea Forums was relatively tame, but a lot of other places were hell.
It's true the relationship was the centre of the narrative, but to say the sexuality of it is an important aspect is suspect, in my opinion. Most themes of most episodes I found could relate to people and their relationships whether they were lesbians or not, since the characters operated more as stand-ins for ideas when it came high-time for the visibly philosophical moments. If the sexuality aspect really is that important, then
It wouldn't work with male characters is because male characters struggle to be as metaphorically expressive as female characters in regards to relationship and sexuality. Why do you think most romance anime genres are full of women?
A lot of people had different interpretations about this one, user, and most discussions I've seen have either been divided or neutral on the matter. The messages stay the same whether the sexuality part is important or not, since coming out for anything can apply to anyone, not just gays.
Enough cucking, just give me a yuri threesome.
Perhaps. But from the limited exposure to other anime-related places I have regrettably received over the years, this does not necessarily has to have anything to do with yurifags per se - the anime community is trash and you could point to any group, be it mechfags or shounenfags.
Anyway. I consider the main theme of Flip Flappers to be about creating freedom for oneself and breaking one's shackles. Papika very much reminds me of Nietzsche's Zarathustra in her endearing attitude to life - and it's her love of life that ultimately helps Cocona to break out.
Admittedly, this theme on its own could indeed be told many different ways and sexuality is not necessary at all. But it's important to make a distinction here between plot and themes. And Cocona's sexuality is indeed a driving force in the plot and one source of her worries. Its overall importance is arguable, I suppose, but I do consider it one of the strong points of Flip Flappers. Aesthetically speaking, it is the perfect yuri.
Disclaimer: I don't care single bit about matters of sexuality outside anime and Flip Flappers specifically. I spit in the general direction of people who conflate the mundane with art.
I felt it was always missing something and I never found out what it was. It was great though.
>that wasn't the point of the show
The climax is a literal gay wedding, user.
Plebs, shit taste, etc
Lack of advertising (which is pretty crucial for an original anime).
