What the fuck did I just watch?

I just watched this shit for the first time. I had seen the original anime before but never the movie.

I feel a lot of anxiety, nothing made sense.

Attached: 46CC6DD2-56B5-489F-995B-0D75C6EEF3BA.jpg (323x455, 53K)

I refuse to believe this shit was canon

Why couldn’t Anno give us a happy ending? Fucking shit

i think you should've looked up from your phone a few more times

He did, which was the end of the serie. But fans didn't like it, soo he had to "fix" the ending with this overrated movie.

because people told him to kill himself after you got your happy ending

Rethink what you saw once you calm down.
>Why couldn’t Anno give us a happy ending?
It would not fit Evangelion at all desu and it wouldn't be a literal masterpiece as EoE

>that fucking fiasco
>happy ending

it's not a happy ending, let a lone a proper ending itself, it's inconclusive shit that leaves shitloads of plot holes and even the piece of garbage that was EoE is better than that.

Yep exactly he left stuff unanswered but the whole point was about Shinji accepting himself but faggots like you weren't happy with that so now EoE is cannon

You got filtered, user

So what’s up with Rei in EoE?

She was an angel, a god or what the fuck?
In the original series she was a normal kid

>normal kid
She was a clone user. Most people aren't clones.

Did anyone of you get really depressed after watching Evangelion for the first time?

I know it sound retarded but I was already in a bad situation when I started watching Eva, but the show really triggered my anxiety/depression.

She qt

Evangelion ep1-26 are the masterpiece that attempts to convey a message, and has a clearly defined end. EoE is literally setup to create an infinitely marketable potential for Evangelion and turn it into the consumer franchise it has become.

>Rebuild is literally setup to create an infinitely marketable potential for Evangelion and turn it into the consumer franchise it has become.
FTFY

Attached: 1550419853299.jpg (410x416, 87K)

EoE > eps 1-24 > rebuilds > literal shit > eps 25/26

It is a happy ending retard, pay more attention

Shit taste, king

>Evangelion ep1-26 are the masterpiece that attempts to convey a message, and has a clearly defined end.
Gainax literally run out of money by the end of the series and had to asspull 2deep4you and "congratulations", EoE is the real ending of Evangelion regardless if you like it or not

Lilif :DDD

Attached: Spurdo.jpg (1600x900, 102K)

It's actually a happier ending than the series if you pay attention.

>making shit up

Attached: 1567919411943.png (209x750, 104K)

OP let me spoonfeed you. Both of the endings are about Shinji accepting himself and learning to love others. The first one is if he doesn't embrace individualism and stays in the LCL soup. The second is if he does, and makes a go of it. You can read either of them as being happy or not, but they're CATHARTIC.
Leaving things unanswered is not a plot hole and you were obviously not paying attention. I feel terrible being harsh like this but it's hardly subtle desu. They literally narrate Shinji's inner monologue and flash it up in big fucking capital letters on the screen to tell you exactly what he is thinking.

So what’s up with the scene of Shinji besting his meat on top of Asuka?

It's a fact. Keep coping.

and yet Rebuild 1 exists as a sequel to the events of EoE which ironically do not line up, so shinji ended up turning into spaghetti in the end regardless.

So what happened to Rei after EoE?
Did she die?

>Why couldn’t Anno give us a happy ending? Fucking shit
It was a happy ending...

OP this user gets it

everyone died after EoE, even shinji and asuka had to have died at some point for the world to reset and lead into Rebuild.

Rebuild essentially lays out that NGE is about this weird cyclical process of recursive "Third Impacts" that soft-reset the world if they succeed, and Kaworu seems to be the only one who really has the ability to retain information between each cycle.

Kaworu's special existence was actually demonstrated just referencing between the anime and the manga. In the manga, Kaworu is not so friendly to Shinji and seems less confident and knowledgeable about things, while Kaworu in the anime treats Shinji like an old friend. Then again, that part of the manga didn't happen until years after the anime finished.

>I-i'ts a good ending because shinji accepted himself.
Why do you feel the need to explain redundant stuff over again? listen buddy it's okay to like bad things but you can't say they are good just because you like them.
even if shinji did finally accept himself and others indiscriminately, there is absolutely not a single excuse that will make "congratulations!" a good ending.
you can keep making as much mental gymnastics as you want about it. it's INCONCLUSIVE shit and as much as you want to masturbate over shinji being 1% less of a pussy than when he started well, you do you I guess.

Sit on it for a week
just think about it and let it process
then come back

One of the oldest theories in the fandom is that the surreal ending of the TV show is a view of Shinji still entrapped in Instrumentality, and EoE is what happened leading to it and after its rejection
The TV ending isn't bad, it's just low budget but it makes sense

Attached: 1547550040770.webm (638x360, 1.3M)

>you can't say they are good just because you like them
You might want to sit down for this one, but that's what the word good means

I screamed at the end. Regardless autism it was the way i finded to vent all the feelings that carried with the series an EoE.

>This is a happy ending

Lol no

Attached: 432860FF-CCEE-4199-9A1D-541675003700.jpg (496x300, 17K)

In the series ending he embraces individuality as well. That's why there was the congratulations scene.

I've always seen the congratulations scene as more about Shinji accepting himself than the idea of individuality like he does in EOE. It's certainly debatable, but I always interpreted EOE as being different than the show. The same way as describes it

This was always the intended ending when they finalized the show's script back in 1995. EoE i essentially the last 2 episodes, just with movie quality. You can even see 2 early quick snippets of dead Ritsuko and Misato in the tv show's fnial episode, yet people still claim that the last 2 eps were always the original ending. Anno just did a quick damage control as the budget ran out, then made the intended ending as a movie after the success of the show.

Now unless you wanna talk about the 1993 Eva proposal , then that's another story. It's still similar to the final product, but there were more angels, some characters had a different design, final battle was supposed to be on a moon base and involve the ancient ruins of Arqa, whatever the hell that was supposed to be. And the progenitor aliens would've been mentioned or have a direct role (they're still canon lore wise, even in the anime. The manga directly referenced them once, and the PS2 games go into details)

lamo, what a pansy.
This is nothing

well you can't divide EoE from all other eva content.

basically there's a bubble that holds ep1-26, then another bubble that holds everything else. The manga, EoE, Rebuilds, spinoffs, video games, etc.

It's retarded to find some sort of meaning in 'EoE' because Rebuild is a sequel to the events of EoE. So whatever meaning you find in EoE would have to be logically connected to what also occurs in Rebuild or the manga or the spinoffs, else it's just purely your own opinion and interpretation that is more than open to argument.

I always took it as the last two episodes are like a more detailed account of how Shinji comes to his conclusion during instrumentality putting more of an emphasis on the psychological aspect of it than what happens with the world. The movie is full story of what happened but with a bit less of the psychology of the last two eps

It is a happy ending friend. Pay attention.

One of my friends had passed away recently when I watched it. It was kinda cathartic actually for me.

no, I was already depressed so nothing really phased me, Just kept me thinking and had me tearing up a few times.

>well you can't divide EoE from all other eva content.
That's how it was in '97 other than the original series.
>because Rebuild is a sequel to the events of EoE
that's just as much up to individual interpretation as anything else eva-related.
I think it's pointless to argue about these things because eva is meant to be somewhat ambiguous and up to the individual to interpret and understand as anno has said an heavily impied himself.
There isn't any objective evidence to support any of the varying claims. All we have is the events of story to go off of.

>Happy ending
How after 23 years you still dont understand that the ending is a bittersweet one because thats what life is. You can find both happiness and sadness, but what matters is that youre alive.

This nigga thinks Rebuild isn't a sequel to the events of EoE.

Attached: 1x9r18.jpg (225x225, 6K)

>It's retarded to find some sort of meaning in 'EoE' because Rebuild is a sequel to the events of EoE
We don't know yet. They probably will never state it clearly, either
The "hints" could very well be red herrings
I personally think Rebuild 4 will reveal or imply the Rebuilds loop only within each other, not necessarily touching the EoE continuity

you might want to check yourself because I never said that

you said it was up to interpretation and opinion, as if trying to say it literally isn't directly depicted as such. Go eat a dick nigga.

also this

>as if trying to say it literally isn't directly depicted as such
you're only proving my point

It is a happy ending. A bittersweet ending, but a happy one, nonetheless. Watch it again.

even if Rebuild 4 looped into Rebuild 1, Rebuild 1 still starts with the world in essentially the same state that EoE left it in. The only thing that isn't clear is what happened to shinji and asuka at the end of EoE, which was never made clear to begin with.

I watched EoE in high school and it actually helped me out of my rut a little
I thought "sure, my life stinks but I will only kill myself if I absolutely have to" but then it gave way to "If I cannot live on my terms then I will die" and ejected out of high school

Attached: 1577262798758.jpg (231x219, 7K)

I don't get what Gendo's end game was or how it was different from SEELE

So, rebuilds aren’t an alternate universe?

>what happened to shinji and asuka at the end of EoE
Most likely started gathering food, making shelters and banged while waiting for other humans to willingly return from the instrumentality.
If the "rebuilds are sequels" theory is true, then each time after the universe resets, the landscape and character development carries unto the next one (the ocean being red, moon having a blood splat on it, Shinji being more confident in the Rebuilds after the EoE traumas etc)

>EoE
makes sense
>ep. 25 and 26
boring dumb shit that has no continuity to the rest of the show with a L O S T tier ending

My personal theory would be that the world resets only happen based on the state of the world before the event. Since EoE depicts a failed third impact with asuka and shinji surviving, it doesn't trigger the reset - which would have to mean they somehow bring about another impact which then takes the red world as the default state to reset from, or they just both die and somehow their deaths as the last two people somehow trigger a reset, like the default state of the NGE universe is to have people in it but if everyone dies then some asspull occurs to bring them all back; but also with the same stipulation that people are reborn and reset relative to the current state of the world.
Since a 'third impact' also fails in the rebuilds, it leads to another even-more fucked up world scenario that could potentially be the default state the next 'reset' would start from if everyone dies again. So instead of playing out the NGE story in a world with red oceans and blood on the moon, it'd play out in a world of billions of headless evas as well as all the other fuckitude that happened during the failed impact of Rebuild.

thankyou for posting this. I still don't get how people defend the shows ending lmao

you watched a stupid fucking movie that went full retard because fans weren't happy with the shit ending of a 26 episode anime about growing up and not being a little faggot

if you want a happy ending/version of this story just watch the original flcl

>I don't get what Gendo's end game was or how it was different from SEELE
He was trying to reunite with Yui, by using the third impact to enter EVA 1, where Yui's soul was. Seele wanted all humans to be absorbed into the instrumentality, while their souls entered the custom made EVAs to rule as imortal gods while the rest of humanity was made into a matrix soup(only revealed in the PS2 game), although in the anime they were still pleased even when they themselves got absorbed into the instrumentality when Rei herself triggered it.

So was she a human, a clone, an Ayyy lmao, a goddess or what?

going to try not to confuse you here but Rei was 3 clones throughout the series. First the child Rei who Ritsukos bitch mother killed, then Rei 2 who was sucked into the angel, then Rei 3 who fucks over Gendo. Rei 3 also becomes a god, happy to explain anything you missed

A clone of Shinii's mom and Lilith DNA combined

will they address what this key does in 4.0 ?
>Nebuchadnezzar was the the name of several Kings, one of whom invaded Jerusalem and exiled the Jews.
Anno my man, what's going on big guy?

90s dub or Netflix dub, Yea Forums?
I have already watched the 90s sub, just curious what the opinion on the dub is. I want to rewatch and I like comparing subs vs dubs.

shut up

Attached: rei_i.png (551x625, 260K)

90's, but sub is the best.
Netflex's sounds shit and it has a tranny playing as shinji

qt

Shinji is an infinitely more healthy person than the start of the series and if you didn't get it then you didn't understand Eva. I'm not trying to be snarky or pretentious, I don't even think Eva is that "deep" thematically. It's extremely simple in message and delivery and you missed the point.
What the fuck would you have wanted for a conclusive ending? The WHOLE of Eva is about Shinji's struggles to accept himself (and the rest of the cast). That's it. That's the whole show. That's the whole movie. That's nearly the only idea in it.

second one is based in a way because it let dubfags know how irrelevant and easily replaceable their beloved dub was

/this

Attached: 1582476697846.jpg (1336x1416, 227K)

Seele wanted to unbirth humanity. Gendo wanted to have humanity to traverse space in Eva-01.

Rebuild's Second Impact is still an event within living memory, people remember living in the pre-Impact world with its living blue ocean, surviving disaster and strife afterward, and adapting. There's physical evidence, they have the marine preserve they built to save sea life as it was dying off.
