Two of them could be defended on the other side.
Misaki because there was some good mixed in towards the end, but it was still very selfish, and she still thought of him as a lowly hikki loser.
Yamazaki thought of him as a friend, but he was also an absolute beta sperg who would have probably taken anyone.
And it's even worse in the novel and manga because everyone is even more of a shitty person.

is the manga a faithful adaptation to the novel?

Sucks that they took all the parts about taking DMT and having fistfights in parks and jerking off to CP out for the anime.

It's a weird mixed bag, and all three have their own canons basically.
manga added a fair bit to the novel, and the anime on top of them both.
Both are worth a read, but it really depends how much you love the story/characters to wade through the same shit to get to what's different.
