I still think Hugtto's EDs are better.

For an aoyama episode it didn't look that bad I think.

I think it's in part because it wasn't a solo episode (though I doubt the other person did much), and because Yamaoka's actually an active animation director who actually works at Toei.

Hugtto is new best season but with really weak ending in comparsion with other episodes.
Star Twinkle has good pacing, good characters and becomes great later.
KiraKira is strange with one really crazy precure and bad villains except that guy with a car.

I feel like ST's ending scenes (the singing and goodbye to be exact) were more polished overall since they built upon ideas introduced very early into the story, but this specific scene from the Hugtto ending still hits me far harder than ST's.

Has lackluster battles and takes quite a while to get going, but has a great cast and does a great job of developing the characters. Pretty easygoing season that delivers more in the SOL-department than the action. Probably my favorite season.

I personally didn't enjoy it very much since I didn't like the cast, but it is commited to its themes and delivers some really emotional moments. Since it's an anniversary season it has some crossover episodes with older seasons and it's widely agreed on that those episodes did more harm than good. Either way, most of /pc/ seems to like Hugtto a lot.

Kind of has no plot and spins its wheels a lot, but I found the characters enjoyable and it really picked up towards the end. ST has a great OST and the backgrounds are fabulous. It drops the ball with character focus since it focuses a lot on the teal cure and doesn't get to the others untill the last third, but when the show actualy focuses on the other characters it does a great job of it. It's got a lot of soul if you ask me.

Damn this felt good. The user who said Fresh had to compensate for shoddy visuals with great writing weren't joking around.
Good episode, pretty unusual for PreCure to have an episode were the parents are involved to this degree.

Kira had very little physical action due to the producer and it sticks to it's theme of sweets a bit too hard, but most of the cast is well-written and there's some good SoL in it. The writer for GoPri wrote this season.
Hugtto has a fairly evenly balanced cast, lots of good fight scenes, and a pretty strong staff. Being an anniversary season, Cure Black and White make a guest appearance in three episodes (the latter two being something of a mini-all stars movie) which are fine on their own, but the plot would have been better off without it.
Has a dedicated schizoposter who never stopped sperging out over some mild progressive stuff in it. Directed by the guy who did Fresh and Junichi Sato, character designer is the same woman who did Yes5/GoGo/Smile.
I can't give you much of an opinion on ST as I haven't been able to get through it yet, the only other season that did this to me was Maho (which was written by the same guy). Character designer is the same guy who did Suite/Doki.

Fresh has the best finale in the whole franchise bar none, change my mind.

Great episode, even with the janky animation the sentiment was there. Chiyu being a sucker for wordplays is fun, just like Ayano. Also I won't even get tired of praising the OST, this other ser of hype music is hype, the best part is that we'll get him for at least two more years.
George fell to the Togepower, and Hagumi as a Cure had to fight him. They couldn't stay together in that scenario, even less when Hana died.

Besides intro episodes, finale and some important episodes in the middle (fights where generals are defeated/purified, and some other important event like mid-season cure's debut), the majority of episodes won't be that great at animation. It's just how production of long runners works

God, I'm so glad Kawano AD is no longer a thing. I don't mind Aoyama so much but I'm fairly salty about him since he's occasionally assigned the important episodes, like the final Nadja and Y5 eps, or the one where Julio brainwashes Ichika.

HaCha had it really bad since Toei took on too many projects in 2014, so they added a really shitty AD to its rotation. The CD even tweeted about how much work he had to do to fix the guy's first ep iirc.

Fresh has been an overwhelmingly positive experience aside form a few minor details. Love was a great pink and the main cast felt nuanced. I actually loved the artstyle (especially the backgrounds) and it feels like Fresh was the season were the music became precure-y for real. Definitely one of the best seasons IMO.

As for what's next, I'm going to watch GoPri. Pretty hyped but a bit sad since it's the last season I've got left.

The funniest season we had if you ask me, much more comfy and character driven than Heartcatch, it still manage to has some 10/10 episodes.

The big difference about the two is that Smile is more episodic in nature, almost everything that happens is more self contain. Heartcatch has more of a recurrent theme and important stuff here and there which adds upon each other. Both are great seasons.

As of Mahou Tsukai, I will leave that to other anons because it was kinda boring for me, it seemed to play it safe a lot and never delivered something beyond expectations. Other anons think different though.

Honestly all three of those shows are good at that. Go Smile Heartcatch then Maho.

If you don't mind something super episodic that some people joke it's a CGDCT Precure, Smile.
If you want a stronger sense of progression and development, Heartcatch.

It took 44 episodes, but I'm glad GoPri addressed that dreams and goals change, and that what not becoming what you dreamed of when you were a kid isn't a big deal as long as you find something that makes you happy. As a show for little children, I think that's a very important message, especially in a season that hammers on and on about the importance of dreams and working towards them as GoPri.

Honestly my biggest issue with the Healin Good designs is a lack of contrast colour-wise. Sparkle looks fine to me but just in regards to colours Grace and Fontaine kind of mush together (try squinting at that pic). The fact that otherwise I don't mind the designs and it's just that that bugs me makes it almost more frustrating.

I also wish the green ribbons on Grace's shoes had leaf shapes, that would have been very cute.

Anime in general is brighter nowadays, in the early 2000s you still had a lot of animators following the school of the 80s and 90s, but a shift started to happen eventually.

On a related note, I like how retro the backgrounds of Healin' Good feels, they're less like the children's book look of Kira/ST, and a bit more realistic.

I don't think the movies ever get really boring because most of them still are eyecandy, all the characters are drawn on-model and you get some really nice sakuga, plus the movies are kinda short for a movie standard, just being a little over one hour.

But they were happy despite that. Emiru had clearly suffered up until young Lulu was born.

I think the implication was meant to be that their friendship is eternal, but I think they bungled it somewhat.

Adding to this that they could have implied that by having Traum create some sort of timeline-mail, so that Emiru and "our" Lulu can still be in touch. Separating them forever and creating a new Lulu is too obviously replacing her, and also has a weird "I'll groom you to be my new bff" tone.

I only got into precure recently but as a KRfag I can safely say I don't really feel any strong pangs of nostalgia for my first seasons (W and Wizard) compared to more recent shows like Build or older ones I watched years after I got into the franchise like Blade.

It has nothing to do with elitism. Newfags are a destructive force and quite literally a cancer. A lot of them just happened to have started with Hugtto but they never stopped to learn this franchise was actually for 5 year olds which is probably why ST triggered them so much. Just look at all the "ST was for babies/ ST is childish" shitposts. They make people who like hugtto look bad and fans with actual reasons for why ST might not have been so great bad too.

I still can't tell if Shindoine or Guaiwaru is going to be the joke general. It's like, every general becomes a joke when Hinata is around.

I feel I say "I don't hate this season" every time I post about it, and that's true, but I'm glad it's over nonetheless. I think it's kinda telling when I didn't bother taking any screenshots of the last few episodes, I felt barely anything during the emotional climax of this season, and all I really have to say about the finale is "yeah it was okay."

also I fucking hate when these shows have tearful goodbyes only to undo them five minutes later so that really didn't help.

Gonna watch Suite next, but other than that I still have Splash Star (dunno when I'll get around to it but I always hear to put some space between it and FW/MH and holy hell if I'm not feeling a bit burned out at this point from those shows to begin with), Happiness Charge, GoPri and Hugtto.

Already saw it and while I liked that season on the whole I despised that ending for that exact reason. Probably a part of why I don't hold that season in as high regard as most people here seem to.

I really wouldn't recommend it user.

It's a well-known animator that shows up every once in a while. He's also known for his love of thighs, and staff members having to correct his genga by toning down the thighs.

It's her entire shtick right up until the very end. If you pay attention she also plays a sort of motherly mature already got it figured out sort of role to the other girls sometimes, but that largely takes a back seat to the oishii gohan.
