Goldenboy Thread (very educational)

Swimmer>animator>business lady>Flower girl>Biker girl>daddy's girl
If you've watched it, discuss moments that you loved. If you didn't, take some time off right now and watch one episode, or even the whole thing. It's only 6 episodes long, and it's up there with the most fun you'll ever have watching an anime.
True manime with great visuals and a wholesome message.

Fucking boomer anime, your time has come and gone

Why didn't Kintaro want to stay with any of them and get married?

I'll start:
One of my favorite moment was the bike race. My blood was pumping just watching it. I was jumping from my seat in the powerline bit and the bridge fall.

Kentaro is a free spirit. He travels the land going from job to job as he studies the world around him. Finishing a degree, settling down, or even having sex, kentaro forgets all of those in search of knowledge

I'm a sucker for protagonists revealing their power levels. It's especially great when it's done like in the first episode and it incorporates redemption and everyone realising how much he came through for them. The first episode is easily the best example of this I've ever seen.

I've read the manga as well but sort of lost interest with the weird mind-diving stuff going on towards the end but hey, Anime is great.

>ntr

I've never read the manga, I've saw the anime cause APPP is one of my favorite studios and I was through the roof.
I really love that too. That episode 3 bit where he beats up the guy after getting beat up by him once to protect noriko and then gets angry at himself for using his powers for bad. The whole idea that the guy's quirks prevent people from seeing the strength in his heart until it's over is an outstanding one. The guy's just himself and people brush him off as an idiot or incompetent until it's right in their face. That whole concept is brilliant.

I think it helps because he isn't the standard protagonist that is loved by everyone. He has clear quirks and fetishes that disgust people, but even despite that his reliability and commitment to helping people shines through.

He lives his life completely true to himself, both the good and bad parts and is always hungry to learn more whether that is programming software or learning to make noodles. It's a great mindset and genuinely something to admire.

>Omegachad has to hide his powerlevel to prevent all the thots in a 5 mile radius from wetting themselves
fucking legend

Perefectly said. It also helps that he has a heart of gold, sure he's honest with his sexual urges and feelings, but his heart is always bound towards helping people and not harming anyone. It's a truly rich concept but simple enough that anybody can understand and take to heart. This show is brilliant and a true manime. Not to mention the outstanding art on top of it all. Same staff that did the JOJO OVAs and the 2003 HNK. Same studio that made robot carnival. These guys are legendary and went all out. I love how they would go anywhere from super cartoony to detailed enough to show individual teeth.

He literally does whatever the hell he wants and they all fall for him. You think he's the one chasing them, but it's really them that end up chasing him.

Oh right, and I didn't even mention the humor is great. The moment with the thugs and the grandpa who repairs bike had me laughing out loud. It was a perfect subversion of expectations and happens quite alot during the series, like with him catching the spit in his mouth gleefully.

It's just all around fantatastic and my only complaint is that more of it wasn't adapted.

But isn't marriage and starting a family educational and worth studying?

That's the thing about this show, you keep remembering more and more aspects of it and how nice they are. As for comedy, stuff like the gangster scenes, the spit scene, every single time kentaro was inside a swimming pool, getting kissed by a man so hard that the footage went to battleships, swapping in real images from APPP to make fun of how messy their animator's desks are in the 6th episode.
It's too good.
On one hand I would have loved more, on the other I feel like 6 episode allowed them to make everything just perfect. There are very few shows, even from my favorite ones, that I don't have a single cut or frame that can come to mind that I don't like besides for goldenboy.
I think it's tragic that A.P.P.P. no longer produces originals

I guess it conflicts with being a free spirit. He probably doesn't want to marry at this point, seeing how he just follows his heart and what it tells him. Maybe one day he'll choose one of the girls, or maybe there is a special type of girl for him that will make him want to be with her forever. Maybe a girl who can be a part of his crazy journey would be the one he eventually goes for.

The anime was really great a as a self-contained set of episodes. One thing I really liked that the Manga did outside of it though was showing more of how he changed the people he met past their episodic interactions.

There was a girl he met who was completely loyal to Kintaro's opposite, a man he met at University who was now heavily into politics. It was hinted that this man was aware of how truly incredible a person Kintaro was and considered him a man who could challenge him. After the little story arc, Kentaro's actions change her on a fundamental level and completely alter her perceptions and loyalty to the point that she leaves the man she followed to emulate Kintaro and travel like he does. She even goes so far as to dress like him and ride a bike around, though I can't remember if it's out of respect or romantic attraction.

It's been a while since I read it so my recollection could be way off, but I think that's basically what happened.

Brilliant masterpiece and a rare gem of an anime, transcendent while (and through) embracing everything about the form of the medium and its limitations. It's pretty much perfect. One of the true 10/10s and one of the anime I'll always keep on my hard drive.

Man! That sounds astoundingly good. I'm gonna go pick up the manga. Not sure why I haven't done so before.
It's kinda depressing that Hiroyuki Kitakubo Dropped of the face of anime. The man is a legend. ANN says he worked with A1 on occult academy but I can't find him credited anywhere, and even then that is 10 years ago.

Agreed with everything
>linking the OST
good man
The OP and ED songs are among my favorite of all time. I keep them on my phone and hear them on loop while running or doing errands.

>APPP is one of my favorite studios
Wow, that's a rare one.

It's great.

I really loved the
>turn me into goo! GOOOOOOO!

It's usually rare that people even recognize the name. They seem to be pretty trusted even now for outsourcing work, I'm wondering who's still there in the studio doing all that. I'm happy that they are still alive and hoping they will one day go back to making originals.
They are looking for new staff. I'm really tempted to try my luck.
I almost spit my cereal from excitement seeing the final jump, that whole chase is mindblowing.

OH YES MY QUEEN

FINALLY!
A man of culture

which episode is that?

Honestly, APPP seem to be past their prime. They were to be a high quality subcontractor back in those days and were able to gather talented young animators. Kinda reminds me of the likes of Studio Junio and Anime R where these small studios did high-quality work featuring future animation greats like Toshiyuki Inoue and Hiroyuki Okiura.

The bike race down the mountain with the jump was one of the hypest moments in anime. Period.

Doesn't seem like that at all to me. The people who worked there pretty much worked from the moment it opened till they retired, and if I had to guess they just narrowly avoided bankruptcy after phantom blood. The founder is still the top manager and they clearly still have talent sitting there cause they work on quite a few anime a year and do art for pretty high end TV anime like gridman, symphogear, cardcaptor sakura... They probably just don't have enough money or the right staff to produce an original the way they want.

Agreed

I thought the flashback chapters in the manga were some of the best I've ever read. The arc with his ramen stand and the guy who gets cucked by megachad was also brilliant.

instagram.com/egawatatsuya/
Wanted to find out if he's still writing, found out he has a twitter. Looks like he slimmed down a bunch and is trying to learn digital art.

The toilet seat scene and him drowning while trying to swim never fail to make me laugh.

Biker girl episode, when he tries to jump the unfinished bridge and the perspective from behind makes it seem like he's close to making it, as he hits the peak of his arc, only to have him plummet and was not close at all (...then moments later he bursts out of a bush on the ground totally fine)

I first watched this when I was in highschool. Then more than a decade later after getting married, successfully got my wife to watch it with me. She actually wasn't offended at all because the pervertedness/boobs/etc were so absurd to her, it was funny to her too, and the stories and humor were great. In contrast, it took years and years of repeatedly being shot down, to get her to watch Superbad with me (apparently real people talking about genitals/porn/sex etc, was offensive) and even then, after watching it, she said it had funny parts but was mostly stupid -_-

The swimming scene will always be my favorite. There's clear hints of rotoscoping, which means some mad bastard actually did most if not all of that whole bit, plus the comedic timing of the visuals and the dub never fucking fails to crack me up

bike slut was the hottest

Yeah I want to hear it too lol

Agreed. Exactly my type.

Attached: HvFNLeDg.jpg (728x546, 45K)

The only thing I really hate is his toilet fetish

these were the only jokes that fell flat for me

Didnt this had a cuckshit ending?

There's a difference between characters that are perverted but good hearted (kentaro) and just plain pieces of shit (Superbad)

Attached: 274552.jpg (1280x1646, 412K)

You really need to stop using Yea Forums buzzwords that you have no clear understanding of. You're not fitting in, in fact you stand out even more for trying to hard.

Golden boy? More like cuck boy, am I right?
No, seriously.

No, this time the guy is completely right. He's talking about the manga.

It had way too much cuck stuff. Some good parts, like that one when he disguises as a woman. But there were other parts that were horrible.

All of it, honestly. That's literally gold

Reminder that the character designer for this series also worked on Cowboy Bebop and Wolf's Rain.

what happens in the manga's ending?

Damn it's still up!
bump

I don't respect anyone who claim to love this show when they watched it dubbed.

What's going on here? Context of this scene?

Attached: 003.png (970x1400, 297K)

The toilet thing speaks quite a lot of his character, It's in a way very perverted, but also weirdly innocent in a way, he just wants to put his face where a cute girl's butt was. It also provides a great obstacle. The moment a girl sees him do it her view of him immediately plummits. This further strengthens her shock once he ultimately sweeps her off her feet.

knowing kentaro he's there to study something

but the poop

But he's not a cuck; it's not a fetish for him.
It's secure, free love. He walks in on her having sex with another man, asks, "can I join?", no, then asks, "then can I watch?" Did you even read the last chapter, where he's sexing up his kohai while his sempai watches and encourages him? She lays out the whole philosopohy of free love in very understandable terms.

The piss-drinking in later chapters is a little excessive

to be fair, they adapted by FAR the best part of the manga. It quickly turn completely crazy and a horrible mess in the manga.

Don't read the manga. Keep your memory and innocence intact

>piss drinking
w..what chapter?

>pick up the manga
Don't forget to let us know about your reading experience.

Not true; the parts with Kyoko and/or Kongoji were the best

Girl band tops everyone on your list.

I believe it starts at the beginning of volume 6. It becomes a whole thing where this girl basically enslaves her whole school by chaining them up and starving them until they're begging for water, then she pees in their mouths and it's just so ambrosial that they all fall beneath her rule.
Oe is her butler, incidentally.

arigato, tomodachi

get off this board boomer

I think it gave me a fetish for the girls on bikes.

Glad to hear user. This is the kind of show that definitely deserves a rewatch.
