Please post the best manga monsters. This is the sci-fi centaur from Stardust Memories.
Manga monsters
That reminds me of another manga centaur.
Agreed Cassandra was menacing as fuck and awesome
Any monster from Claymore was fucking awesome though.
Europa was also fucking cool.
Such a simple design but cool still.
yes there is a thread in /tg/ that is unsatisfactory, i hope the connoisseurs of Yea Forums will remember more interesting sketches of creatures.
Cassandra was the best, and yeah there were just so many fantastic monsters in Claymore. I think that's one of the things that feels less engaging about Yagi's current work--even though I like the lead characters, it's not as fun as Angel Densetsu and not as impactful as Claymore. I still like it, but it doesn't stand out all that much
these look like extra-dimensional symbolic entities.
All hail
Was just about to make a thread about manga monsters
KNKD has some great ones
what are those things?!
very human
Wasn't aware there were so many centaur monster in manga
As a big fan of monsters I'm having a hard time thinking of any manga that are on par with Claymore's number and quality of monsters. Might be because in addition to solid art, Claymore spends a lot of time developing it's monsters as characters. They're characters in the story, rather than just freaky things who are there to kill people and be scary
Might actually read Claymore thanks to this thread, those are sick
Good call
what monster is that, can't find it at the wiki
from Kyouka's Trouble, just a throwaway
There were a good few scary monsters in Fourteen, but the MC's brief stint as an 'invisible invincible monster' was the bes
The ghosts in Mieruko-chan look pretty neat.
The scariest monster were still those starfish things at the beginning.
You remember them? They infect you and after a while your flesh turns into more of these things who search new victims. They could have extermineted humanity in a short amount of time.
Scariest was actually the alien rape to death monsters out of nowhere
I have a deep love for Chicken George, especially in the opening chapters
Parasyte, blame!, your moms face.
This isn’t the Phos thats I remember.
Disappointing manga
I will need source, dearest user. Can't find any..
nevermind, found it. God damn I needed this.
Yeah it really was. Was hopeing for a trashy titty manga but instead I got a trashy shounen, with titties. Never thought I'd find this as a bad thing.
The first two volumes were pretty good, but Kishimoto just had to fall for the traps of shounen cliches
I'd say only first 3 chapters were good to me. If black haired chick from pic related had stayed the main villain, this could have had a great Claymore vibe, with femboy Raki.
If nothing else, the art is top notch
I couldn't find it whats the source?
Well, some of the most fucked up monsters are a type of centaurs in irish mythology
do cybermonsters count?
YOU BET YOUR SWEET BIPPY THEY DO!!!
I don't even know what Raiku was on about with this one.
have some more then
Jigokuraku does have good monsters in it, though it's gotten a bit to into the weeds about its whole power system as its gone on
I agree. Its pretty much recovered with the latest arcs but it did take a noticeable dip when Tao was introduced.
It would have been better if the power system was never introduced, imo. Or at least never made as elaborate as it was. It was just unnecessary and dragged out that entire section.
Maybe Tao in general could have been introduced, but in such a way that we didn't need 20 chapters of characters 'training' to get back to the fun part.
Yeah. It ran into the usual problem of "we introduced these monstrous antagonists who inspired fear, so now in order to progress the plot the author can only think of a complex power system with a training arc to make the playing field level". Thankfully yeah, things are picking up again now
Aight Yea Forums, what's your favourite kind of monster and what constitutes a good monster design for you?
>Aight Yea Forums, what's your favourite kind of monster and what constitutes a good monster design for you?
I strongly dislike most bipedal monsters because seeing something that could be a dude in a very intricate suit doesn't do it for me. And I generally dislike monsters that fit a broad archetype of "monster." Something like a horrific centaur and bizarre dragon doesn't feel too impact for me since I've seen those basic monster types before. So, for me, I appreciate when a monster is so far removed from basics that it is truly something unique. Of course, that's inherently difficult to do and I'm rarely satisfied. Autism.
Do you enjoy the Angels' designs in Eva?
I think that there is enough variety to good monster designs that I can't really call any specific one the best.
But personally I enjoy monsters that trend towards cosmic horror aesthetics over more traditional monsters.
I like designs with symbolism, weather its related to a character who transformed into the monster or is the monster is supposed to represent some kind of idea. This kind of thing usually leads to more abstract and wierd designs which I also like
Guess you'll like Kazuma Kaneko m8.
I've posted a bunch in this thread, but to single out my specific favorites they would be Cassandra and Chicken George,
They're two very different monsters, but they both stand out to me. Cassandra is a monstrous and grotesque version of a woman that unnerves readers by taking something beautiful and twisting it into something grotesque and evil. And she was made all the better because she had such personality as a character even as she was doing her monster thing, always talking shit to her fellow monsters and telling them to eat shit. Chicken George is just as grotesque, and in his early (and most impactful) appearances, carries an expression of immense gravity and terror. He oozes a strange type of charisma. The first time I saw him I couldn't help but try to imagine what his story was, because of how interesting he looked.
So overall, I get the most out of monster characters who retain human elements and who you can tell have depth and character just by looking at them. In the same way that you can always pick out the MC of an anime from a crowd, it's usually easy to tell what monsters are just mob monsters--there to look scary and kill people--and what ones are characters with actual stories and personalities behind them.
I'm on first watch, they completely blew me away. Ramiel and Leliel in particular. I really like mystical geometry and stuff like that. But of course, if others followed suit, you could only make a dodecahedron or whatever novel for so long.
Whoops, meant to say "on my first watch."
I saw Eva a long time ago. And I'm waiting for Anno to fuck me in June.
Ano Hito no I ni wa Boku ga Tarinai is a gold mine for great monster design.
this is the one with the giant whale girl right?
Not exactly a monster and certainly not an important figure in the story, but this weird thing from Dai Dark impressed me with its design.
SMT was what I had in mind but didn't bring it up because it's not entirely Yea Forums
Anything from Gantz really
Ye
It's amazing how terrifying lazy CGs of Renaissance art can be.
I should finish reading that one day. I like the fact that she is a monster that masquerades as a cute girl
Would post something from Toriko but I don’t have anything saved.
I was disappointed with Toriko because the monster designs didn't live up to my expectations, but there were some pretty cool ones along the way. This and the Death Gore stick out to me.
I was looking through Amon just for this thread and ran into this ugly bastard.
The worst of them all.
NSFL
More of a animal than a monster but still one of the more fucked up things in a series full of fucked up things
Chainsaw Man has some cool devil designs. This one is the Ghost Devil.
forgot that the description doesn't really say what they do
that's cool as fuck
Posting best devil
Any opinions on whether the manga or anime is better to go with?
anime is the "definitive" version of the manga because it added some original moments that add a lot to the story and the author had to skip over when writing. Also at this point you can probably wait for the sequel movie instead of picking up the manga right after the anime,
Sounds good, thanks
Leech Devil is weird.
>masquerading
Are you insinuating she isn't?
I was impressed by the care that went into these adaptations. The artist likely is a genuine fan of Lovecraft.
I thought they were gonna be cheap cash-grabs at first.
My man Seishi didn't have any success with this shit. Too bad cause it had the potential to be his magnum opus.
Maybe it became shit when his editor started seeing the absence of success and meedled with the scenario. It was so good at the beginning, I can't believe it would become like this because of Seishi alone.
Better quality version, in case anyone wants it
Spoilers for Dungeon Meshi
Who could forget the greatest and most terrifying monster.
is (you) user.
for posting some traced background traced character soulless shit in a thread full of creatively drawn things.
Reading Fourteen felt like I was going crazy
Pic is probably more Yea Forums than Yea Forums related.
so is this manga just basically House of the Dead?
Jujutsu Kaisen's monsters are pretty good.
The thing is that while there are some great designs, they don't get pages really highlighting the designs like they should.
>thread just not full of Berserk pages
Claymore is pretty cool too
IMO Berserk wins with art quality, but Claymore's monsters are easier to get personally attached to, which is why people have favorite Claymore monsters but are less likely to have favorite Berserk monsters
>Metal Space Centaur in the middle of manga with Medieval Europe aesthetics
This is my fetish. Something about the way he's so out of place is great, looks like the Starmen from When the Earth Stood Still
A lot of Berserk's monsters are too 'natural' to appeal to me. Zodd for example just isn't as cool as something more abstract and otherworldly.
Which is fair, in that are lot are traditional 'fangs and tentacles', but a lot of the minor characters have cool little themes
Griffiths new apostlebros are cool. Too bad we will never see Guts kill one
Moth pussy is another great one
I have always disliked the dragon apostle. Something about his design felt alien to me. Maybe since it's so inorganic compared to other apostle's who are fleshy creatures it felt like it didn't belong in the manga. Pretty much every other apostle beside him feels like a Nagai demon. Locus is another exception, but I don't dislike him as much as the dragon. Couldn't tell you why. Maybe because his metal form reminds me of his lance whereas the dragon doesn't have anything so connected.
Slug Baron was always my favorite.
I don't like a lot of the newer apostles, but this guy is cool.
I dislike Grunbeld because his "human" design is cooler than the dragon imo. A giant knight with a flamethrower shield is more interesting than a huge fuck-off diamond dragon with his stupid face sticking out the top. The dragon also looks it could be a Pokemon so thats another minus
sauce?
>Pippin
Sekai Oni
This. The dragon looks okay I think it's less interesting than I think a diamond dragon drawn by miura should be but his face on the big diamond sticking out of his head looks awful. All the apostles use their face a little bit better or it just doesn't look as bad. The big gem on the top of his head looks bad anyway.
is that a head inside a head?
he hardly ever had any success, most of his manga didn't last long or get much attention compared to his brother's
he doesn't look terrifying or unique, dragons hardly ever do, as a kid I used to love dragons but it gets boring too fast, there's too many dragon designs out there
What happened? Did the author dropped this or the translator dropped the translations?
In general, I like designs that are simple and elegant, not intricate and grotesque. Like it's something that could actually reasonably exist.
I generally want something believable (within the story) with a lot of thought put into it.
Kouya ni Kemono has like 12 monsters but they're all top notch. Similar thing with SMT (but that's vidya)
Those amalgamation of ugliness that a lot of artists throw together really do nothing for me
Both exist, but the latter is harder to imagine. Just look at deep sea creatures.
A lot of deep sea creatures don't look like something that could exist.
You got any specific designs in mind?
An amalgamation of ugliness might be believable within some stories.
>something that could exist.
Your mind's map is inadequate. Everything exists.
Thanks for the input, but I meant something natural.
That doesn't really imply any thought was put into it. Ghosts in Mieruko-chan fit the story but do nothing for me because of how uninteresting they are.
Pic is another ugly monster, but looks stunning design-wise
I agree with that user. An artists job is convincing me that the 2D drawing I see is actually alive.
While it doesn't have to fit human sensibilities, it has to be believable in the sense of being a finished design
technically counts
takahashi's some great stuff
>Relinquished
That motherfucker
Cool to see how different the brother's works are
What is this?
Zetman players. I prefer simple yet well-made designs over "just add more human parts" edgeblobs.
Yeah, i know... That's too bad, cause the premise of this manga was really good and the animals design was brilliant. There were so many good ideas in this one, a shame that it was axed.
The art is top quality, and the passion put in these drawings are easily seen.
I'm trying to find physical copies of the manga in my country. I'd really love to have the whole collection.
Made in Abyss barely even shows off it’s creatures, which is disappointing
why would you go to that tings party.?
fuck you and those holes
fuck you and the drawing
fuck this and those fucking holes
fuck you caught it this time
lol good ole dick feet
Gleipnir
The food was alright
And I was on no fap. Well, keep posting anons.
Also from the same manga:
This looks odd what is this
Moment by Moment.
is brain dude a monster or just a victim of one?
Human turned monster, surrounded himself with super sharp wires around him as defense.
pretty much the only monster like thing in this manga, but i really like this design
Huh lol
Wish fan drew more stories like this and less of the amputating their arms and legs and transforming them into goo/inanimate objects
I swear I recognize the art style, but no luck with finding the source
Shigahime by Sato Hirohisa. Great read but really edgy
Thanks
Several of the Guardian Nen beasts in the current arc of HxH have pretty sick designs.
true
What's the matter, user? Scared of a few holes?
102 images and NOBODY posted a single page of hakaijuu? really? just fuck off with your 'lmao this should b renamed to berkseber and claymore thred!!!" already.
No Biomeat either. People are going for the size factor it seems.
This was a wild ride, surprised so few people here know about it
Spoilered for containing Gash Bell spoilers.
It occurs to me that he kind of looks like a Yu-gi-oh monster.
I was waiting for someone else to do it.
any classical mythology monster depictions in manga?
Nagai did a few variations on this theme in Cutie Honey vs. Devilman Lady and Devilman Lady, but I like the Salacia version the best here. Spoilered because Nagai is too spicy for mods.
Relinquished is my favorite monster, design wise.
Why did Bastards!! turns so shitty?
Porno Diane was such a bad "fight"
Davinel is a cute high school girl, not a monster
Envy's true form is pretty decent.
>dude bokors lmao
that aside these zombie dogs were terrifying.
This is basically a monster.
does curse count?
Dinosaur Empire from Getter Robo
Certainly Store does, although I'm having a hard time finding a representative image of it.
>Everything exists
This image instills more anxiety than literally everything in this thread
This looks like Getter Robo, is it?
No it's Susanoou
babby
Is that a Nagai or Ishikawa manga? Sorry im just getting into both of their works
Nagai
gemocider phos >>>>> every other phos
Some more oddball designs from Salacia.
Bump for more monsters.
posting moar
Parasye is worth an inclusion, although for me, it didn't live up to the hype.
I don't have the heart to post Mitty from Made in Abyss here
you better not faggot
I can't because I'm watching episode 13 right now and sobbing nonstop over how much I love her
It's RE4, but with a lot less payoff.
Still pissed about the ending.
What are your thoughts on Neo Parasyte M? It at least expanded the further universe, plus is developed the main characters dad a bit.
What manga was it where the pig fucked the woman and impregnated her?
>Neo Parasyte M?
Sorry, haven't read it. Only other thing by the author that I have read was his contribution in Neo Devilman, which was one of my favorites. His choice of focusing on the society collapse following Ryo's television conference was excellent. That's my favorite part of the manga, where people start to turn against each other, each thinking the other is possibly a demon. It was a good inclusion in an anthology rife with crappy stories.
So I stay on topic, here's his take on a Devilman.
?
This looks so much like Berserk.
It was a horror one.
I...see
I really like this big beetle. Source manga is okay-ish (Adu of Hades).
I've always wondered if little snail was actually an apostle or rather some other apostle's spawn. It'd make more sense for that to be the case than for someone to use the behelit to become a tiny snail.
It would be better following the Devil rather than switch from the first mini arc of his reveal to following some who cares character and her twin sister. Also the manga isnt finished. But I do like how the Demon kings are basically eldritch abominations rather than typcial demon kings.
this is honestly a hard read despite being interesting it just drags on long and is such a downer as it goes
Poor unfortunate soul
I like that it stretched for a long period of time, I like to see the kids grow
I'm not going to act like it's better than any of the designs people have shared on this thread.
But Goddamn did this thing feel unstoppable on a blind read through.
See, when you just post Gantz so casually it looks like complete trash. But it's so much more.
I watched the anime first and every second of struggle was Hell.
>Posting an absolute monster
Also the Nurari is in the panel too, I guess.
Is this worth checking out? The name sounds super familiar.
I am as excited for as disgusted by Gantz:E. No monster yet, but I bet we're gonna get a lot of yokai aliens.
Been loving the ghost designs so far
Still waiting on chapter 10 and beyond.
I loved this series. Everything was nice Ignoring a certain subgroup of freaks that came out of the woodworks at the end of the ocean planet arc.
Blame has some cool stuff
oh this looks nice.
where are her organs?
Made in Abyss has some wonderful monster designs. Too many, really.
>Maple will never eat you alive
long since decomposed/disintegrated. She has a bad habit of losing them.
Sounds like a personal problem
Very kawaii, very succulent.
Do girls that can change from adorable midget to titanic notGodzilla kaiju count?
Yeah she's had a rough go of things.
Woah, it's so weird seeing this comic's art, as someone coming from the show.
>not posting her real monster form
Shame on you
Ok I went into this expecting it to be generic crap buts its actually adorable. Made my night
i binge read all of mad chimera world because of this thread
thanks
>Sounds like a personal problem
you seem to be having more issues with her missing organs than she herself, so...
How come no one posted anything from Gantz? It has some really amazing monsters designs.
This one actually managed to give me a real feeling of disgust.
>How come no one posted anything from Gantz?
t. somebody who didn't even check the whole thread before randomly just assuming there's no Gantz in the thread.
