Well for starters, it wasn't bad writing.

Gohan had shown signs of great power throughout the Saiyan invasion and Namek arcs. It finally came to fruition in the Cell arc.

Same thread yesterday

It didn't, now cry

>Gohan has to get over this random pacifism he developed
>gets triggered by the death of an Android that he had never interacted with before

That bad writing

>What is empathy
hello npc

Gohan has always been a pacifist. Is it even possible to speed read Dragon Ball? Shit is basic as fuck. And 16 was but what tipped the iceberg. Seeing his friends suffer led up to it..

Atmosphere. It was played up really well. Cell was the biggest asshole on screen at the moment and then he just rubbed salt in the wound by crushing the one giving Gohan a pep talk. It was immensely cathartic to watch his smug instantly turn into panic.

>Gohan has always been a pacifist.

He always fought when he needed to though, but he refuses to fight Cell

Gohan will never be as based as this again.

>an arrogant dumbass that got his dad killed
>based

>pacifism he developed
even more weird considering he never really enjoy all the studying chichi put him through.

We were ten years old.

>He always fought when he needed to though, but he refuses to fight Cell

Nigga let daily dose die because he didn't want to fight.

Sad but true. Still happy this moment existed. It's the closest the Dragon Ball franchise ever got to replicate the sheer awesome rejoice of Goku beating Frieza at Namek.

Goku dying is a common occurrence. It's literally meaningless.
If anything the heroic sacrifice was poor writing that carried itself entirely on the moment as when you take even a second to think about it, oh hey dragon balls.

That was his first fucking battle and he was 5. Not the same against Cell

I like how it was executed. It's dumb writing and it demands characters to forget their reusable macguffin. But in the heat of the moment it gets to be heavily emotional and for a moment one forgets about dragon balls as well. Also, resurrection or not having your father die for you when you're fucking eleven has to fucking suck.

Oh well

Just the visuals and music, Spirit vs Spirit is this really weird song that seems like it doesn't even belong in dragonball if you compare it to all the songs in DB,Z,GT(jp)and even to this day Super.

The way the song starts of slow and quiet and leads up to this epic chant into the normal lyrics is kinda like a musical representation of Gohan's rage boiling over and continuing to increase as the chorus does. As said the visuals too the a lot of great use of the other combatants faces and the pressure flowing from Gohan causing this level of respect (everyone literally stop what they're doing even the fucking Cell jrs. to turn and go WHAAT THE FUCK IS THAT". It's set up good, however as others have said the setup itself was kinda bad writing and what it lead to after was pretty shitty but it was a hell of a lot better than his SSJ transformation that's for sure.

>let Kakarott die
>not based
?

Gohan was never a pacifist. He was just a reluctant fighter, he wasn't addicted to fighting like Goku. He wouldn't turn down a fight to save the world. He fought the saiyans and consented to go to Namek. Pacist Gohan was shit writing, he would never turn down fighting Cell to save the earth.

god i want broly be become a part of the main cast

Aside from Gohan sudden pacifism, it wasn't bad writing. His power was foreshadowed ever since the Raditz arc and more prominently Toriyama had drop hints about Gohan's eventual succession during Cell arc.

Even during the Goku vs Cell fight, he wondered why everyone keep shilling for Goku.

Tell that to Namek Freeza arc. Dipshit.

Finally culminating to his fight with Cell. Too bad the fight was dogshit.

That's implying Cell's strength is greater, not his own.

You're forgetting he was like 9 years old.

Could someone explain to me how Dragon Ball became such a popular manga and I mean exclusively in Japan. Don't care about the anime wave for the USA because the USA is full of idiots and pussies who grow up with "action" cartoons where you cannot show people getting punched in the face.

What did Dragon Ball offer to Japanese audiences that made it unique because action and fights have been a thing in Japanese mangas even before Dragon Ball existed. And if we're honest the writing of Dragon Ball is very much shit.

No, he didn't give jack shit about Cell. Gohan was using HIMSELF as a measuring stick to Goku's strength. He wondered why everyone goes gung ho when what Goku has shown wasn't impressive. He didn't know he had become stronger than Goku by that point. That's why at the end of the fight, he thought Goku wasn't trying.

How is he a pacifist in the cell arc? He agreed to fight Cell after Goku.

And after beating Cell he "enjoyed" the studying bullshit and convinced himself it was great to just become a fighter Has-Been. I really hate Chichi, she really destroyed Gohan. I'm not going to pretend Goku is a good father, but Chichi is also very much a shit mother. She's the kind of mother whose children either kill once they snap or as soon as they move out of the house they stop speaking with their mother and disappear completely never to be heard from again (except maybe to force her into an old people's home to finish rotting in there and eventually die in there).

That's a good question. Did hnk not have enough energy beams?

it was well drawn, visually distinct and done exceptionally well, not sure if there's anything else to it.

Wrong, your head canon doesn't change reading comprehension.

No you're wrong.

no u

>frieza arc
you mean the arc where he fought only after snapping cause of the assholes that were killing innocent slug people?

People confuse him giving Cell a chance to back off as him refusing to fight.

yeah gohan basically had a sudden 180 in character development there. I can forgive it on basis of just not wanting a goku 2.0

When did he turn down fighting Cell?

Speedreader or retard? It’s impossible to know

How was it a headcanon when Gohan himself was taken aback that Goku has been using his full strength at the end of the fight?

Okay, go ahead and try to defend Gohan deciding not to fight Cell. I'll wait.

you were a child at the time

What made SJ4 work despite it was bad writing over three bad writings?

wait meant 3.

Catharsis. Despite being poorly written the audience is like Pavlov's dog salivating at the next power up. It's the entire shounen genre and the hook with different bait; Naruto after it and My Hero after that.

mostly due to the hype from the beginning of his arc
