How not? She was kind and understanding but tried to get Yusuke to be more serious about life while at the same time having an enormous soft spot for him. You not liking her personality isn't the same thing as her not having one.

In a show where the stars aligned for a great dub she's one of the few bad voices, overacted and forced. I wouldn't be surprised if the reason a lot of people trash on Keiko is her goddawful voice actress in a somehow completely watchable dub makes her unbearable when she shouldn't be.

She was good in the first arc I thought, she went above and beyond trying to keep Yusuke's body safe. She's basically irrelevant after that though, sure.
Yusuke also hardly interacts with Botan at all really, I can get liking her more than Keiko (I do too) but shipping them is dumb.

Now that I think about it, Botan is a top-tier imouto in terms of her dynamic with the MC

Weird, because I never saw them having any chemistry at all. Ukyo tried to use Ryoga as a sidekick on three separate occasions, and each time she regretted it, calling him out on being a stupid self-sabotaging fool.

Hell, Ranma has more chemistry with Shampoo, Ukyo or even Nabiki than Ryoga and Ukyo have, in my opinion.

That was why she was good. She cared about Yusuke above all else. Before his death, keeping him in line and out of trouble. After, keeping him in her prayers. Botan cared more about the safety and security of the world and took a more pragmatic approach to Yusuke considering that. He was her job. Keiko was the type who was going to wait forever for Yusuke (or regret it) even though she was always going to outwardly tell him that she wouldn't.

It should be a crime to create characters with such good chemistry, just to hit us with a middle finger "muh childhood friend boner"
