The last thing this series needs is more no-stakes, drawn-out filler. The original did so well in no small part due to the great high-tension, no-filler starting stretch. Being hamstrung by the manga’s future starting point is killing the franchise at this point IMO.

Reminder that the original series had to retcon Naruto into actually knowing 2 other of his classmates (Choji and Shikamaru) because everyone was treated like strangers through the chunin exams when that would be insane but there was no time to establish that kind of thing. All because it leaned way too hard too early on reacting to someone attacking them at each turn.

You've got to be pretty blind to think Naruto's interest in Hinata was just because he was being empathetic. If that was the truth he should have also played a role when watching Lee's match because they are similar as well. You cant deny that Kishi was already setting the basis of their romance from the very beginning. And yeah, Neji did sorta bring them together. Look at how much focus Naruto puts on Hinata as soon as Neji was set to fight her, or how he admits he has grudge against Neji just because he hurt her. These moments between them, even in part 1, are supposed to be considered romantic. Especially when you know they end up together at the end.

Call it what it is, but I grew up with Naruto from the beginning. I can't help but draw on the body of memories, the feeling associated with those memories everytime. I'm hoping to God Kishi doesn't fuck this up like he usually does when he wants to make someone, in this case Boruto, look good. I want Boruto's face to be dragged into the mud and forced to look at the poor guy he constantly judges and despises, to see everything he struggled to do, to be. And despite all this, he remained a good man until the end.
