The first few chapters of the series as a whole? I find the pacing is one of the best aspects of the writing. Balancing conflict and times of rest, carefully scattering a slow raising of stakes with a few minor (but nonetheless important) arcs in between.

Must be you. It has a nice pace. Not too fast, not too slow. Things happen as they must. Let's not forget Coco has to grow a lot before she can finally rescue her mother and resolve the plot.

It's perfectly fine for me, it just feels slow because of the monthly format.

Yeah its fucking horrible.
The circles represent nothing, they dont align even. The girls aren't physically located the way the drawing shows.
Theres some random squares showing nothing relevant. "look at this piece of ceiling".
The background in the bottom is likewise meaningless and ugly.

So what did Coco cook up? Does it have anything to do with his illusion magic?

If nothing else, its an interesting and (imo) graphically pleasing way of merging several elements of a scene into a single moment of epiphany, a climax of sorts for the scene before transitioning off elsewhere. What can I say, Kamome likes circular things and loves not aligning things when she can get away with it.

Its some decently elaborate shit, a "down the rabbit hole" type schtick, luring Beldarut and whatnot. I can post spoilers from next chapter if you'd care to see.

Actually, I thought the circular paneling was supposed to symbolize a magic circle, since the dude was talking exactly about such drawings.
