What is the best size for a harem without compromising too much screentime for each girl?

Depends what you can afford to put into your anime. As points out, you need 2 around 3 episodes per heroine to flesh them out. Isekai Smartphone had to juggle multiple girls an episode, and even Rokujouma's anime adaptation felt too rushed.

2-4, anymore and there's too much, 4 is where the borderline is at, anymore than 4 then the anime/manga becomes To-Luv-Ru tier because past 4 then the author will just keep adding more

6 is the absolute maximum as it allows 2 episodes per girl in a 12/13-episode series.
4 or 5 is more reasonable, I think if there is someone mundane like an osananajimi or little sister-type (or 26 episodes) then it's okay to do 5 but otherwise it should be 4.
