Syana was actually kind of a terrible love interest that was very selfish in the end; the only acts of altruism that Syana committed were keeping Yuuzi alive, but that's just selfish love. Syana was also an unbelievable bitch against Yosida for a while.

Louise at the very least has — despite his enormous temper — shown actual acts of altruism and kindness towards Saito.

A lot of the "Syana clones" just had a temper and were rude but were otherwise altruistic towards their lovers; Syana conversely wasn't half as temperamental and rude, not to mention not as physically abusive, but actually just extremely selfish and has no redeeming qualities apart from being a hot as fuck æternal loli — which to be honest is the most important thing.

You could also argue that all human acts are selfish and there is no such thing as altruism. I don't understand your criteria on selfish vs unselfish. IMO Shana did more for Yuuji's overall wellbeing than Louise, who treated him like a pet. It only worked out because Saito is a masochist that needed a reason to live(which conveniently came in the form of serving Louise).

There's an extra meta dimension in the selfishness of the reward from altruism itself or the material reward one gains from it.

In this case, even without the mental reward of an altruistic act, Syana's interests are served by Yuuzi remaining alive, because Syana enjoys his company.

In the case of Louise, Louise has done many things for the reward of altruism alone, most notably at the end sending Saito back to his own world that he not risk his life for theirs, in the expectation of never seeing him again.

Obviously — as I said — Louise is also far more temperamental and has also beaten Saito into submission multiple times, whereas Syana kept it mostly to insults and annoyance but Syana has never done anything really for another man in that entire series that did not service his own self-interest, in this particular case, keeping that provides him company alive.

I agree; originality begets becoming genuine, and so Shana will always be remembered as an icon of the era because she wasn't a clone. Though, I don't think Shanas clones are even really bad. Definitely a lot more original than the battle harem duos that followed the tsundere era.

I agree that Louise did show self sacrifice, but I think you're blowing Shana's 'selfishness' out of proportion in order to make such a contrast. She's definitely shown care towards Yuuji, and has risked her life for him on many occasions. Even though they had a clash of opinions at the end doesn't mean she wasn't thinking of him.

My point was that she wasn't keeping him alive purely because she liked spending time with him. If you still insist on arguing extremes then I can also say that Louise let Saito return because she was responsible for bringing him there in the first place, and wanted to remove her guilty conscious.
