Only if they're a sorcerer or something that can be taken seriously. Usually a female villain has to be cute so they're comedically inept and spastic which prevents them from being truly threatening, like a villain should be.
The other side of the coin is that the female villain is a sociopathic drama vampire that feeds off the misery of others and dragging them down to hell with her, which is too real for me.

It would help, for instance my favorite type of pairing is hero/villainess, but if the villain isn't referred to as such in the story than it kinda puts a damper on the interactions.

the pink triangle wasn't used on women. Nazi penal code only punished homosexual activity between males, people at the time believed it was natural for women to have sapphic inclinations. Plenty of lesbians ended up in concentration camps, for their political or religious affiliation, their sexual orientation had nothing to do with it. the USA and the UK had similar laws up to the 1950s.
