I never really got the appeal of mechanical pencils, I guess it depends on the shape of the the pen though.

They're very important for writing in Japanese. Regular pencils have the tip too big to make the complicated characters. There's even mechanical pencils designed to keep the tip evenly worn.

What Kuga did in the first strip reminds me what happened once in middle school: Me and some classmates were watching two teachers and a guy started narrating lines about gay things and dicks. The hand gestures that one of the teachers was doing made those lines extremely funny.

It's a stray, so probably not.

I usually just pull the handle back to add a bit of spring action on top of a normal swing, works pretty well. Asakura-sensei's method is pretty impressive though.
