The main town is basically about to being raided by the army and the capital is fucked, no time for that story wise, and I really doubt the author would want to extend this series more, seeing how he wants to focus on combatants instead

Iris is in the wn but is nowhere near as prominent. Almost every volume that doesnt involve a General is where it diverges, overall the story is the same with some twists.
We already got replacements for Aqua and Megumin. So unless Darkness is your favorite, there is already where to move.

I read the Web Novel and can read into where the light novel's story was heading. It's either going to be a harem end or an ambiguous one. Megumin got a lot of focus because she was popular. From the glances at the threads, the 'proof' was just a bunch of 'almosts' and shit.
