I remember when I first read the VN. After finishing the Saber route, I thought to myself....why is this such a big deal? It sucks. Tsukihime was waaaaay better. Then I read UBW when they translated it a year later......and yeah, then I finally understood the hype. That route right there is what probably skyrocketed its popularity....Heavens Feel in comparison...seemed like a step down, but still good.

The one thing I don't understand is why Tsukihime is not nearly as popular.

Heaven feel was a huge letdown.
So much wall of txt and mental masturbations about the concept of "anti-hero" we see finally Shirou getting away from his self imposed paladin role, and accepting to protect Sakura no matter what. It was good premises, but totally unfullfilled. Rin made Shirou her bitch once again, basically cucked Sakura and taking her confined in her room, and ultimately turning Shirou against her.
And what about all the anti-hero stuff? What about accepting Sakura's inner darkness?
Total let down.

Why is i garbage? All i ever hear is that fate is garbage. Never why.

The best course of action is to just try it yourself and come to your own conclusion.

1/ About the face of the franchise (since they are usually used to promote the VN, attract newcomers and their face/designs are the first thing people get to see in the cover). It's not wrong to say that Saber is more appealing than Arcueid, at least for nips.
2/ FSN got popularity boost with its anime adaptations (including the DEEN one, yes). On the other hand, Tsukihime anime is urh... and it seems like there isn't any studio that wanted to animate it again (like what ufotable did with FSN) even before TM officially announced the Remake.
3/ Tsukihime story is too chuuni. No, i'm not saying Nasuverse as a whole is not chuuni but Tsukihime is Nasu at his peak chuuni. Maybe this is the reason why he wants to rewrite it...
Those reasons are just on top of my head and my own opinion anyway. To be fair, Typemoon used to care about Tsukihime side a lot: getting an anime & manga adaption, Kagetsu Tohya, Melty Blood, other spin-off manga,... It is not unpopular, but it is definitely not in the same level with FSN (before FGO).
