Doujinshi are not published by large companies, but rather by the individual or a small circle. As such, they can be devoted to things those people actually are interested in and passionate about. In addition, this gives incredible freedom of expression since they don't need to worry about what others think so much.
It's the same reason Yea Forums is so often the source of memes and such.
The biggest chunk of the reason it was so heavily fought against was its power.
flash makes apps and many services obsolete, making the internet a lot harder to control and monetize. Why would someone make an app and have to deal with whoever's in charge when they can do it easily and independently.

This makes no sense, the greedy bastards are adobe which just milked flash as long as they could and advertisers bloating up pages with it
Adobe doesn't see a dime from flash ads
they got their cash for flash by selling the program to make flashes, that's it.
Paying to adobe to put up a flash ad was never a thing the same way that you don't pay adobe to use a photoshopped commercial, just for the program
