The way this was translated might be some unintentional brilliance depending on what the original Japanese said. It could mean that Denji has the realization that he really does have a 'heart' or that he did have one because Makima has it.

Still, it was a nice unconventional downtime chapter, with a bit of a sinister start undercut by Shark's antics, and closing with seeing their respective responses to movies and the experience of watching them.

I really liked this bit here because it's such a perfect description of my usual experiences with film. Even lately, as I've been going through my bucket list of great movies to watch, I've found that not all of them manage to hit the spot, but the ones that do stick with me.

This chapter makes me think less that Makima has a human heart or any empathy at all. It all just seems 'calculated' starting from the moment she asked Denji out as soon as he felt dissatisfied again to the point where she emotionally reacts just as Denji did. What really tipped me off is the fact that she kept his answer really ambiguous that it's suspicious. She didn't expect him to ask a question but dodged it with just answering it as plainly as she can. We still don't know what's the significance with Denji's heart but we do know that Makima knows a lot more about it than anyone except maybe the Gun devil.
