Going to the movies alone is a strange experience. It's mostly negative of course, because man is a social animal and very annoyingly so, but there is a lesson to be learned even there. First of all, every couple is going to grab your attention more than usual. You will see lanky dudes and their fat gfs, and you will ask yourself whether it was worth it. Whether the two are somehow happy in their own way, the same way Ahab was happy when he found his whale, even though it was pain that drove him to it and nothing more. Next there will be larger groups of mixed sexes, with male to female ratios always greater than 1, and with the female(s) having their hair dyed in an unnatural color. Usually you would just cringe at those pinks and blues and look away, but because you are so acutely alone there, and they so loudly aren't, your gaze will linger, and the simple dynamics of their group will jump at you revealing the brightly colored barycenters and the desperate orbiters. Then there will be all-male groups of two to four people, some or all very possibly gay, or perhaps just lonely, but still not as lonely as you are. In those groups there will be one guy that would tell the others the trivia like who the director is and what his other works are and whether he likes him or not, all of which will remind you why you aren't in this group. Finally there will be other loners, but those you won't examine in detail, as they would show you only the sad image of yourself.

any animator can do whatever they want you are talking any random piece of media any of them saw over their whole lives. I'd say a good bunch of them never get found.

While they're not made by Trigger, Tengan Toppa Gurren Lagann, FLCL and Evangelion were basically worked on by the whole team at Trigger when they were still together at Gainax. TTGL and Eva are both referenced pretty heavily whole FLCL is mostly referenced by a VO.

Also there's small nods to Kill La Kill.

So I guess if you want to get most of the references just watch Eva and Gurren Lagann. Which they're great shows you should watch anyway.

It was a lot of fun and the sound track was enjoyable. I wanted to get a refill on my drink but felt I'd miss something if I did, which is a good sign for me. The amount of hokey-cheesyness, references and over the top goofiness was a lot of fun. Lio was also cute as fuck; I'm not a yaoi shipper but I popped a bit of a gay boner when Kamina did the flame-transfer thing. I was a bit sad they didn't connected that universe as a prequel to Gurren Lagann a la Diebuster / Gunbuster but I still likes the plot simple enough. A damn shame the autists behind me were being so loud but the excited atmosphere was enjoyable enough.

My theater did something like this back when they showed Heavens Feel pt 2 subbed, pt1 dubbed played instead and everyone was confused and pissed and started leaving. 10 minutes later the theater fixed the mistake and I was afraid the same thing was going to happen tonight.

My theater was decently packed. Probably around 20 people. Last time I went to see an anime movie was Your Name and that shit was completely full. It was the sub version too.

Wasted all the budget in the first 8 minutes: The movie.

I thought it was good, but aside from the mech fight near the end the animation get get really poor. They didn't pace their money out well enough, clearly.

Complete style over substance replete with copious amounts of Gainax/Trigger references. The story is absolute rubbish and goes from 2 to 20 in like the last 20 minutes. The CGI looks like shit and doesn't fit the fluid, well done 2D animation. Also, it's just a big budgeted KLK, but is subpar compared to other anime films that have come out (barring the gap between this film and a Ghibli film)

The Burnished wanted to burn everything but didn't want people to die of they could help it. Maybe they took into account the BURRRRNING RAANGEEERS would show up to help and waited until people were evacuated, but it still is a wee convuluted. Best not to dwell on it since it was just a vehicle to make them right in the begining.

All the people praising the art were just fooled by the fast camera. There are some technically impressive scenes, sure, but also some rather poor ones. I expected better from Trigger.

What a fucking shitshow that was. They played the wrong version (dub, not sub) and it started 35 minutes late. Jesus christ.

Visuals were pretty good except for a few times the CG dropped to 12fps. Soundtrack was great. Story was garbage. The entire first half of the movie could have been done in 15 minutes instead of 45. LOLSORANDOM Trigger references. Gainax stance and literally-pulled-from-gurren-lagann climax.
Worth watching in theater just for the huge screen, but I wouldn't see it more than once.

Pros:

>Jokes were pretty funny, got some laughs from my audience, mostly Deus ex Machina
>Saw it subbed, but voice cast for that version seemed perfect, couldn't see the dub, but the casting choices looked good
>Characters that get lots of screentime were interesting and enjoyable, Galo is a lovable goof, Lio is a precious boipuss
>Villains were nice at being hammy even though one of them had a shitty Disney-tier villain twist when he had barely had screentime beforehand

Cons:

Yeah it's just a localization choice in the sub script. Like they think having "sister!" Is awkward to read. And they dont put in Japanese words. If they put in oneesan (not sure why they would ever do that) they'd have to include chan, san, etc. I think there are some localization that do include this but it's the minority I feel. Was great, I got the center seat in the theater in between the handicap guests that's for a single person without disability, of course no one with a disability is going to watch a niche theater so I was mostly clear. they closed the portal, and used the "safe" flame to surround everything in the solar system as the promare went supercritical and burned itself out through the spatial rift, then they used the residual "safe" flame energy to seal the rift after the promare fucked off because they got what they needed from humanity

Pretty sure they closed the portal by trying to gather all the fire into one place and creating a reaction by launching it into the sun, splitting the worlds apart again. That's mostly a guess though considering the sun also fired off the promare across the solar system in that scene too.

Plot isn't the only thing that's substance.Well written characters, a solid theme, motif, something that makes me think of the world at large and my life and leaves an impression beyond, "well that was cool" is substance.

Closest I came to something like that was on approach over the water the guy next to me was looking down at the ocean and said "hey dude buckle up see those whitecaps down thar". A few seconds later BOOMBOOM SHAKE SHAKE BOOM and he was liKE "YEAHHH BRING IT ON YEEEHAAAA". the scene where they open their lockers is great silent character introduction. they did a really fantastic job of introducing the burning rescue crew only to do nothing with them in the middle of the film. that's probably the film's biggest flaw.

I think it's important to note that he doesn't actually prove he has any skill in being an inventor or scientist because it was revealed he stole all the inventions from his mentor. So it might not have been impossible, it just seemed that way because he wasn't actually trying to find another method. Reminder, he had 30 fucking years to develop it, I'm sure if he was at least kind of approaching Heris' skill it would've happened.

It could have. But like other Trigger anime, it would have been 13 episodes of stuff happening and 13 episodes of filler/recap/world building that goes nowhere.

Every jap actor was really good, even Kray, it was just a really odd choice for his type of character, very high pitched and whispy.

I just got back from seeing it alone. Good visuals, good Imaishi-style action, but it felt like everyone who wasn't Galos, Lio and Kray was underutilized.

False. Triggershit looks awful most of the time. Bad CG, QUALITY and slideshows/flash animation gags abound. This actually looked as good as Gainax stuff.

I thought his unassuming, soft-spoken voice was very effective. It made the obvious twist better.

I'd much rather see them use slideshows with awareness the way they do and sakuga when it's needed than something stiffly animated the whole way through like most shows. They're clearly aware of it and Imaishi knows when to use it. He's completely mastered limited animation. To each their own though. There's plenty of Gainax shit with not that much actual animation in it that's covered by Anno's minute long still shots.

A good movie ruined by a bunch of jubilating retards. God, I fucking hate all of you.

I was in a good packed theater. No cheering, but there were a few laughs and I hard some people giggling during the CPR scene. Audio felt too low at times though. Enjoyable movie though. Galo is best boy.

It's probably just you. My theater was pleasant and I laughed along with the crowd at the jokes instead of acting like an uppity prick while watching an anime movie.
There was even a fat gay with a Hatsune Miku belt on. I should have complimented him on it.

It was pretty fucking sick there was some technical issues at the beginning but they got fixed so I wasnt too upset
There was an overweight older man getting pretty heated about it which was pretty amusing though
