His personality is tormented and stoic on the outside but is subtle and complex on the inside. He's rude, blunt, and snarky as a result of being around over the top characters, that's at his worst. At his best, he's as kind and compassionate and selflessly determined to grow stronger as much as Deku and Bakugou only difference is he's more humble than Bakugou and more cautious than Deku about it.

He's possibly the most human character of the main 4 core characters.

So he's more than just bland, stoic and angsty, unless you are saying he doesn't have to right to be considerably sad and broken.

Honestly, AtLA has some of the best fight choreography I've ever seen. Every little movement just feels so damn real and good to watch. It even got to the point that you could tell what was coming just by the consistency of what gestures they make. I'm glad the series ended at 3 seasons and didn't have any sequels, spin-offs, adaptations, or comics made about it.
