One of the problems is that in some cases, the Japanese actually don't even want foreigners to buy the stuff in the first place. Like some sites won't even let you buy from them unless you have a Japanese credit card or Japanese address, so even if you did want to buy legit, you couldn't because they won't let you.

I can sort of understand suing for series that already have official translations (even if they're far behind), but in many cases they also want to take down stuff that either got discontinued or was never licensed to begin with. Why do they want to prevent us from reading stuff?
