The point was that it was what Eren believed. From 15yo Eren's perspective, his dad had forcibly given him a power he was never meant to have, which was never truly his own and a mission he was never fit to fulfill. Despite his hopelessness in that moment, he was still able to fight back to protect Mikasa. But despite her intervention, his self-doubt and guilt went unresolved and festered, which ultimately led to him acting like a giant cuck for a good part of Uprising.
If he wants to feign at the rumbling being a terrible act or the manga having gray areas he should try a little harder.

lol, is this your idea of worldbuilding? I've read authors who have evoked entire worlds with a single throwaway line (John C. Wright, for example, casually mentions in one of his hyper-futuristic settings that people are legally responsible for simulated versions of themselves or others that attain sentience, so you could be running a simulation of what your future family life might look like and if your simulated kid starts questioning his place in the universe, shutting them off is legally tantamount to infanticide).
That's how you worldbuild. You casually mention something that's familiar but also isn't, and let the imagination go. Not just reminding the viewer that lol, yes, schools exist in Paradis. I don't think you're in a position to critique what is or isn't good worldbuilding
