Holy fuck, A SAWYER SPINOFF??? This is shocking to me. It does make LOGICAL sense— the author likes to develop both Roanapur and its various characters through character-centric arcs. But Sawyer? I was expecting we’d get to learn a bit about Chinglish and her crew eventually, but I was expecting it would be through a CIA arc focused on Sister Eda and the Church... who have basically been built up as closet “what a tweest!”-style high-key threats to Roanapur’s way of life for some time now. Not Sawyer.
I’m excited for this. I want to learn how she got in the biz. Hopefully we get to see more of Balalaika at her best, as a proper gangster, now that her military history shit is out of the way.

That's more for the original series not this spin-off. The B-Team really wouldn't have a foot in all that drama.
This means they get to deal with new threats relevant to them in their respective stories. All of this helps world-building for Roanapur by increasing the scope of things.

Afraid so. Take all the mythical and crazy bull-shit regarding ninjas and sum it all up in one character, there you go. The guy practically uses magic in the story. So while Roberta is an absolute beast, using her bloodlust and rage to fuel her rampages, you can't trump straight-up magic.

Aight, here's a couple of things --
The secret to his power stemmed from him stumbling upon a obscure series of books detailing how to become a ninja. These were intended to be a scam because everything it tells you to do is damn near impossible -- except to this fucking guy apparently, an extreme case of mind over matter.
Now here's how he gets beat --
The plot demands him to assassinate Chang. In order to do so, he kidnaps Rock with the intent of disguising as him. Once this happens he makes his way to Chang's building an confronts him. Chang had happen to find this same exact series of books through clues left by the ninja himself. So when he speaks to him, he simply pretends to be apart of the same 'clan' the ninja hails from just higher up in rank. Ninja guy believes him and submits himself to further aid Chang in whatever endeavor. Chang just sends his ass off to China so he can help out the Triads there.
Had to be this way. Otherwise there'd be no way to stop him.
