You gotta remember that Gourry is about 22 when he first meets Lina (14 at their first encounter), and has traveled across most of the continent, and has served in a war, and is a tall, fit, handsome young man. Kanzaka said it's entirely possible he's gotten laid before meeting Lina, despite not outright confirming it since everyone would ask, "Who was it with?"

Not in the LNs. Maybe you're thinking of Gourry and Lina. The author removed Zel and Amelia from the story before their relationship could build up to anything, unlike the anime which gave them years of companionship. But anything could happen now that the LNs have restarted again.

To be fair Amelia and Zel are hard-shipped in the anime, manga, and video games, though not nearly as much in the light novels because, in the author's words, he's terrible at writing romances and therefore doesn't include any. However, almost everyone pairs them together, and even Araizumi-sensei goes out of his way to show that Amelia isn't particularly innocent.
Especially given the way the older Saillune women dress...
No, unfortunately neither Amelia nor Zel were seen once between Volumes 9 and 15. What you're thinking of is Gourry asking Lina to take him to see her hometown in Zephilia (which is where the two are heading in Volume 16, which released just last year). It's because of this request that Lina internally thinks that Gourry wants to ask her parents' permission to marry her.
Amelia and Zel DO appear in Volume 16, but it's largely happenstance: Zel has sold himself out to a band of rebel elves as a mercenary under the auspices of assisting them in retaking lost territory, when he's actually trying to get access to their Claire Bible. Amelia, acting as a diplomat, has been going to other countries as an emissary to discuss the mazoku threat following Hellmaster Phibrizzo's death months prior. On her way to Zephilia, she and her entourage were captured by the elves who had hired Zel.
After Lina and Gourry inadvertently rescue Amelia and Zel defects, we get this artwork, showing their reunion.

It's actually Zel that rescued Amelia, once he recognized who the elves had kidnapped. They went to meet Lina and Gourry together.

Yup, you're right. Lina and Gourry did have a scuffle with the elves, and Zel was with them during that fight, but Lina and Gourry didn't rescue Amelia.
Also their reunion was probably Zel doing his best not to stare at Ceipheed's gift to men.

There were signs in the first season too, like when Amelia shielded Zel with her body from Copy Rezo's attack, Zel blushing when Amelia landed on him, and the little awkward moment they had after casting their first double Ra Tilt together.
Not only are they the perfect balance of contrasts, while having enough in common that they can still click, but they also bring out the best in each other. Amelia helps Zel find the gentle, idealistic self that he once was before getting disillusioned by betrayal and hardship, and Zel helps keep Amelia grounded, not letting her get carried away by ideals, and provides a more mature voice of reason and guidance through the outside world she was sheltered from in her palace upbringing. They're the ideal "opposites attract" couple for me.
I can't get enough of them.
