Before the board is completely overtaken by Fate and FGO next season, I thought I would dump the Tsukihime manga.
If you've ever seen Fate works, and was curious about Tsukihime and wanted to try it out, this is a good chance. If you've read the VN but not the manga, it's a pretty solid adaptation for Arc's route, plus elements from both Near and Far sides. Maybe you've played Melty or some other French Bread fighter and kind of know Tsukihime is related and wanted to see. Maybe you're just looking for a nice completed manga to (re)read.
TM said they were going to remake the VN something like 10 years ago. The manga is a very good adaptation of Arcueid's route, but you have to read the VN to experience the rest. I'd say it's worth it, but it really depends on your taste.
Out of all the design changes, I'm really going to miss the knife. I liked how simple it was, even if it made no sense as to how it extends and retracts itself considering it apparently has no visible mechanisms.
Well, that's all the main heroines formally named and introduced now. Of course, the manga focuses on Arc route, so don't expect too much from the others.
How interesting, I was reading the first 2 volumes to this manga yesterday
Anthony Collins
Yeah, I'm pretty confused at what the fuck happened there. His other art featuring Demiya looks decent, but the actual art that was featured on the card is just plain disappointing.
Never mind, I see they're just using the DrMaster translation. Whoever did this could've bothered to edit their script, at least. What a shitshow that release was with the terrible paper and creases all over the covers.
Nasu probably burned down his whole reference material of tsukihime after FGO made its first billion dollars wich is already something that happened few years ago
I keep holding on to the hope that it's just around the corner as soon as ufotable finishes Sakura's movies and they'll be released together like the remake for YU-NO.
I never read the manga but I did read the VN and then I watched the a̶̯͍͎̜͈͕̰̺̯̝̼̬̍̊͒̂̂͒̓͝ͅn̸͎̪͕̱͙̤̐̍͒̈́̇̑̔̈́̋̾̚͘i̵̢͈͔̹͔̗̙͠m̷̻͙͍̦͓̋͌̈́͒̈̿̂́̓̐e̵̯͙̫͓͔̮̹̩͙̰͚̝̮̺̯͋̈́̂ out of morbid curiosity

Silly user, there was no Tsukihime anime to watch...alas.
Haven't watched it, why is it so bad? Is it the quality? Did they change anything from the original story?
Jace Williams
Tsukihime doesn't work when you try and fit it into just 12 episodes and they were adapting a relatively weak arc (Arc's) to begin with. The animation is not stellar and if you're not well versed in the ways of low budget low quality early 2000s anime then it will catch you completely off guard. With that being said, the OP and ED are quite good, and the audio directing in general is quite on-point. Overall they would have made a fantastic, say, Resident Evil. Does it live up to TSUKIHIME, however? No. No it doesn't. The voice actors they went with also didn't stick, they got new ones for Melty Blood and later on Carnival Phantasm. However, when Ciel was copied over to Higurashi (This is the reason Type-Moon is credited in Higurashi) to be Shie-sensei, they made sure to get anime Ciel's voice actress. Ciel jokes remain a running theme throughout the OVAs for Higurashi.
If you're genuinely interested, you're doing yourself a total disservice by not reading the VN. If you're into fighting games, Melty Blood is a gift from God too.
bit weird character designs, extremely confusing and truncated plot compared to the VN thus making the entire thing feel come out of nowhere.
In the anime, we have ZERO idea why Shiki just up and cut Arc. Also Chao's fight is him literally just jumping in air with super sped up cape flapping in the wind.
Good OST though. It's nice and comfy with good moody shit in the side.
Wyatt Bailey
me too. Why does Takeuchi not understand that purple ass granny skirt is why people like Arc?
Connor Reed
Arc in FGO when?
Jacob Robinson
Don't forget the hair intakes. Her hair is boring now too.
Levi Rogers
I read the VN aeons ago while waiting for Heaven's Feel translation to be edited, and I'm surprised by how much I've forgotten.
Aaron Brooks
I've pretty much forgotten everything except the core plot points.
James Thomas
I read some of tsukihime years ago. Started the manga a couple of days ago on a whim.
Justin Bennett
Its parts like this why the manga far surpasses the VN. The characters actually get fleshed out and their interactions are more meaningful than what you get in the vn, furthermore, Shiki is an actual character rather than a blank slate for the reader to self insert into.
manga >> vn
Zachary Brooks
Don't trust this guy the manga is head and shoulder above the vn. You should only check out the vn after you read the manga so you can get the other parts of the story that the manga doesn't cover. Also for that great OST.
Jose Baker
final singularity
Parker Cruz
Shiki felt like anything but a blank slate to self insert into, his inversion impulse sequences and bits where he's not fully in control of himself make him read like Bateman. Outside of that he's tortured almost constantly, by either actual torture or guilt. Shiki is about as fleshed out as Battler as far as being their own character goes. Also you should read the VN because the audio, the visuals, and even the prose itself contribute greatly to the story, giving nuance that can't be done in the manga quite as effectively. Honestly from this first volume the manga feels like if the anime actually got a budget and could properly adapt what the anime failed miserably at. Then again I consider the near side arcs a chore that's required so you can get to the REAL story, so take that as you will I suppose.

This chair.

Don't trust this guyhe's a filthy secondary and probably likes the tsukihime anime too.
God, I've reread this manga so many times, but Arc is just too damn irresistible. It feels pretty bad knowing Nasu is never going to write anything with this kind of SOUL in it again.
Sebastian Phillips
I would like if the TV version weren't the only version of this song to exist. But at least we get Gibbous Moon to compromise. youtube.com/watch?v=X1k19E_qAL8
How many times has Nasu retired from Fate now? Three? FGO at least gives him a medium to explore the world he created, instead of just infodumping in databooks whenever he gets a cool idea. I doubt he'll ever leave it entirely.
Cooper Roberts
>I doubt he'll ever leave it entirely. You're not really wrong about this >Part 2 is meant to be something like a full course meal, and TYPE-MOON is doing all they can until it ends. After completing the meal, whether the players go “I’m already full, time to leave the restaurant”, or whether they say “I can still eat some more” will decide how things go. If there are still people who want to play, the management would have to work hard so that they continue to enjoy it. >Nasu has prepared the developments for “post-completion”. There are two patterns, pattern A, where the story continues from Part 2, and pattern B, where Chaldea’s tale is completely told and a different story begins. Both had him thinking “this is an interesting idea”. >At this point, he’s started drafting it since he wouldn’t make it in time otherwise. However, it is up to the users to decide. Their decision is something even Nasu can’t predict.
Jaxon Perez
>Tsukihime mangaka is also FGO Shinjuku mangaka as well as the artist of Emiya Alter and Fuuma Kotarou
Instead of just infodumping in databooks whenever he gets a cool idea. He still does that, materials are arguably even more important now that ever.
Benjamin Perry
Why need Gun God when Mashu is already going to be Gun Goddess?
Angel Diaz
Im this nigga I finally arrived from work and took time to read it, very good first volume, OP will you continue this threads? I can't believe that Nasu wrote something that is actually interesting
