Asuka is cuter and you feel really bad for her after you learn of how much she suffered. You can understand her behavior then. Rei is great too but she is kinda boring and doesnt have as much presence as Asuka has.

I think both Rei and Asuka are interesting characters and brought alot to the table back in the day, but in my honest opinion i prefer Asuka because she feels more human and more natural than Rei's robot-like personality, and her feelings are much more watered down than Asuka's.
They are both very breedable tough.

Asuka would naturally play for the best team that she could legally play for (based on nationality/heritage) and that would take her. Of course, everyone would gladly take Asuka, and between Japan, Germany and the US, Germany is the one with the greatest chance to win tournaments. Not a difficult choice, really.
