For harem anime, a lot of people drop them the moment their favorite girl appears to not be "winning" or straight up doesn't "win".
Why is this?

There was one shitty harem manga I git memes by Yea Forums to read where something like that happened, only the mangaka made it clear she won't win but she learned nothing and still pursuited mcs dick.
At least let her fucking move on instead make it as painful as possible at the end.
I never understood this either. Do people self insert themselves as the MC so that's why they want them to win? Most of the time the MCs are the worst dumbest most asexual retards in all of anime each one dumber than the last so why would people want to self-insert as that? Especially the asexual part.
Why would anyone want to see their waifu get with a shitty generic harem MC?
I drop series at the mention of harem most of the time unless its in some kind of weird setting, a school setting is 100% drop while some isekaishit will be 1-2 episodes in, before mc get his gary stu powers.
It's not about winning, It's about relevance. See when a winner is unclear that means there's a chance for all the girls to get development, screen time and just generally do things. When it becomes clear who the favorite is the typical thing that happens in this kinds of shows/manga is that all the other girls people like more than the MC end up getting reduced roles to where they become static characters who can only ever be who they started as or have some token development before they may as well not even be in the series anymore.
Most of Yea Forums apparently
It's about supporting your favorite girl and wanting her to be happy. You can talk all day about "muh beta MC" or how lame the protagonist is - but in the end she likes and wants to be with him. It seems natural to me to want your favorite to be happy and successful.
Also this. Designated losers are almost universally shafted out of any meaningful development - even if they're interesting characters who deserve the time and focus.
Don't these kind of anime usually end after a girl "wins"? So what development?
Well the point should be not to make it so obvious from the start. If you have a designated love interest who's all but guaranteed to win out the gate it really defeats the purpose unless the harem elements are secondary to a larger plot.
I don't like uruka because she's black.
Is there ever such thing as a good harem? How would that even work? Protag just picks a girl right off the bat? I guess that wouldn't be a harem then.
becuase then she gets less screentime
There are good harems, they just never stay good. Those that get the start right will most likely run out of steam part-way through but keep going because it's still profitable. The few that pass both of these tests almost invariably fuck up the ending. Of course, that's oversimplifying too, because a lot of the ones that seem good were bad from the start because the shitty ending was always the plan.
I drop it's when it's way to hard to ignore that the writer is sandbagging any development whatsoever. The excuses and interruptions are constant and ridiculous and it literally becomes chapters/episodes being the same thing over and over until it ends in the shittiest way possible.
It's when football fans leave the stadium early when their team is losing.
Suck it, Dolphins
A lot of people don't even bother reading bokuben when it's not about their favorite.
I don't think that's really too bad. It's like watching a sitcom and the episode ends up being about a character you don't care about so you just skip it. It's not like anything's gonna happen.
No it's not because they start making all kinds of stupid predictions since they didn't read everything and are missing stuff.
>Why would anyone want to see their waifu get with a shitty generic harem MC?
this definately is the thin red line most harem MC's straddle. in some manga the mc is such human trash it actually tarnishes the waifu shine that they're interested in him in the first place. In other harems the mc is such a beta trash you just hope the best girl finds someone else. This is why the MC is so important in a harem manga, if he's complete trash the harem loses a lot.
Bokuben is comphy because the moeman is a solid harem protag. Things like 5t are hard to stomach because futaro is a typical harem mc only snarkier. it doesn't reflect well on the quints that they're remotely interested in him.
I think a bigger issue is how the losers girls rarely get any closure after the fact. Main girl wins and you even see how anyone reacts past the first kissu. If you're lucky. Because, and this goes for a lot of genres not just harem anime and not even just anime, we can unfortunately never see how the characters act in a relationship, but that's a whole different can of worms. So basically harem anime, if it gets a conclusion just ends in a lot of broken hearts we never get to see healed.
>calls itself harem but only one girl wins
fake harems are the problem
I stopped reading this a long time ago, but did Yea Forums get knocked out of the bowl?
Even a lot of non porn multi girl actual harems still pussy out.
Why continue to watch a series if your favorite character is guaranteed no interesting screen time?
I love Rizu
I suppose someone has to.
None of the heroines are definitely out, but it would take some development to have Yea Forums not shipped to Australia.
Also, Mafuyu a best.
>infamous
The fuck you talking about faggot?
Is she that unpopular?
My question is why do people even watch Harem anime to begin with? Do people just get off to poorly written 1 dimensional characters? Do good Harem anime even exist? Isn't a good Harem anime just a competently written romance?
I don't even read Bokuben I just think she looks boring compared to the others.
>why do people even watch Harem anime to begin with?
The girls.
my guess is that people only read this sort of absolute garbage because they really like a certain character design, in which case it makes sense to watch a particular character's arc and nothing else.
pretty much.
All "harem" should just be omnibus
She's likely getting her time to shine pretty soon.
She will be out for good when she goes to Australia
Do you mean "anthology?" It is surprising there's not more Amagami style shows though. Then again it's probably easier to bait full series buys if you drag it out.
Harem anime is like horse racing to me. If my horse isnt winning that means I'm losing. I chose a lame horse. Of course, having a huge crash is also a massive payout regardless of who wins.
Right, the victory feels better the closer a heroine is in the dark horse position.
This guy knows.
uruka is literally the worst girl
Because it sucks to see her sad especially after all she did to try to win his affection.
Her spinoff is so great while I dropped the main story. It's almost like two completely different MCs and writers.
The Dolphins should have kept that tackle at least. They might be sued by the same fans that mostly approved of their 'strategy' at this rate.
I actually just read 5T the other day for the first time and I really like Fuutarou, he's pretty good harem MC, and I have bought it every single time when one of the quints fell for him.
As for you OP, I don't know what to tell you, I tend to not read harem at all normally, but knowing that the coupling you support won't happen just sours the experience you have with the manga, sinece for most harems, the romance is the main point of it. It's like watching a sport and your team loses, it's sad and continuing to watch it just fills you with more sadness, why would one subject themself to sadness knowingly?
Hell, I am already giving up on 5T despite really liking it so far after binging it, I'll only pick up up again after it ends properly and then decide whether I want to read it if the ending is satisfactory.
>episode 3 never
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Yeah. Utaha was lucky to have her spinoff due well enough to see her get a happy end that was denied in the main story. Not all girls from a harem series will be this lucky.
Probably to feel some sense of achievement or victory over others. If the MC is bland and boring why would you want your favorite girl to end up with him?
Because to properly self insert yourself into the mc, he has to be as hollow as possible.
At least that's the logic behind it.
What a gay thing to say.
Here's your (You).
She isnt sassy enough.
