And even then they only show off watered down parts of that 'harsh reality' anyway. None of the various adult abuses like extortion or bribery occur in Aikatsu as well.

What is that episode about Rola where the hat guy actually chooses the winner and then fucks off and never appears again?

Also related to that how keikaku man wanted Yume's CD to flop and pushed a Hime CD to release the same day.

The worst thing the hat guy did, iirc, was to 'rig' the competition by allowing competitors to participate but ignore their accomplishments in favor of in choosing the 'seasoned' diamond that was Rola over a rough gem like Yume.

His actions are without doubt one of the more morally questionable deeds done in Stars, but when you consider how tame that is compared to real-life examples of even worse rigging scandals, well there's that. Also, he does appear again in ep 42 during the Yuzu & Lily episode as well.

That was Hikaru's doing, not his. Recall that it was after the competition had ended with Yume being selected as the winner. There was no reason for Sashida to impede Yume's progress given that he had changed his mind one episode earlier. Hikaru was the one who manipulated the state of affairs.

The eyes on Aoi's first model were genuinely terrifying. Luckily the start using a better model about 10-15 episodes in.

Something Aifure doesn't get enough credit for is some of the song lyrics, there are times where they're still kinda generic, but in other cases and especially with I Believe's song, they are perfectly tied to the characters and the storyline. Their song is one of the reasons why I think they did an amazing job with I Believe even on a rather limited timeframe.

Frankly, even 6 episodes is enough to tell a good story. The fact that writers had a ton of time for other characters, but wasted it, speaks only about their incompetence.

In the context of the Aikatsu franchise, it wasn't that much time. There have been characters completely wasted even across multiple years of appearences in every series, to me Hibiki and Alicia being fully realized in just six months has been a nice surprise. In terms of raw time, it's still sizeable, sure.

I really love story relevant song lyrics. All 3 of I Believe's songs have been so good in that respect.

I don't consider them taking their time over the arc to be wasting it though. Thy chose to make it the main storyline and draw it out. And I liked that they did it that way. It's not incompetence to do that. Just because you can tell a good story in a short time frame, doesn't mean taking longer is bad. See, any fucking novel ever.

I mean, look at Rainbow Live. I won't pretend that it is perfect, unlike some anons here, but it's a good example of COMPETENT writing where ~14 characters got a good story in 50 episodes with a nice amount of fun times moments.
Even if we take smaller cast, as well as more focus on fun times in account we should get something like Ojamajo Doremi. Honey Cat being just a little step above sidles in one and a half years has no excuse.

They devoted more than six episodes to what they set out to do with I Believe, and I wouldn't say any of that was wasted. They still weaved Pure Palette, Love Me Tear and Wakaba in their arc with their own continuing arcs due to the jewels, they simply wrapped them around the unified theme of the jewels and the Sorbetto Kingdom. It wasn't uneventful at all, a lot of stuff happened.

This has less to do with sheer amount of screentime (which was the case with other wasted idols like, say, Kaede and Aria) and more with there not being a clear plan where to bring the characters, thus even a lot of screentime, which Honey Cat did get, couldn't bring them too many places. Contrast Reflect Moon, who had a similar level of relevance throughout the show (arguably less during S1 due to showing up later) and yet feel much more complete and fulfilled due to the writers knowing where to take their concept and how to develop it.

They were, for the first cour and a half. They didn't have the strenght to carry their rivalry the whole season. The seminal development moment for Pure Palette, episodes 28-31, was spurred by Reflect Moon rather than Honey Cat, and from then on Pure Palette set their sights on Love Me Tear, who are still their main rivals at the end of the series. I don't think that's necessarily a bad development either, but they neglected to give Honey Cat important things to do to replace the role they lost.
