You sure you're not thinking of Prisma Illya? Precure doesn't have very much fanservice, and unlike Prisma, is primarily (and widely) marketed toward little girls.

I take it that you haven't watched HaCha. But yeah Doki's Aguri arc was pretty bad (at least for me) and it never recovered. The finale was underwhelming too.

still, there should be an action oriented Precure game. yes, i get it, not needed for bandai/bamco/Toei to get out of their comfort zones, but you dont lose anything by doing that!

People always ask for a Precure fighting game but I think the Smash Bros style suits the franchise much better. Toei could even make it a cross over with their other franchises.

Aside from the drama, there's also the weird way they handled Hime. After getting tons of focus in the first 20 episodes she suddenly had her crush on Seiji erased in a sudden way and her whole family situation suddenly faded into the background. To the point they didn't even spend on minute showing her kingdom after it was saved later on in the series.

It really feels like someone in production felt like they gave too much focus to Hime in the first half of the series and they overcompensated in the 2nd half.

It's starting now.

[The director] being that big fan of Doremi, he wanted badly to include the daily life comedy and drama in HC but that was a little bit challenging since the B part of Precure EP is for the action, so he ended up with the idea of making the drama itself concerning on the monster of the EP. And so, directing Heartcatch for him was like making the daily life in the A part with Igarashi style, and the action in the B part with Yamauchi style. Basically he treated Heartcatch like Doremi but with action.

It's by far the most popular season (outside of Japanese nostalgia for FW anyway, but that doesn't really factor into conversations here at least) so clearly it does something right.

I really like the show, especially how the MOTWs are all based on the emotions of characters you've gotten to know over the course of an episode instead of just "random fight with a monster." It's not my favorite season but it honestly probably is one of the best from an objective standpoint.

Doki was great about things like that. Back when it was airing, "DOKIDOKI DOESN'T FORGET" was a minor meme because of how well and how often it dealt with continuity compared to most seasons.

When people talk about character development here, they almost always point to single episodes where the character says a one-line summary of what they learned that week, which goes on to never inform any of their actions or thoughts ever again. Basically, far too many Cures could be time-slipped from episode 5 to episode 45 without it affecting the final arc at all. But Doki did a great job of having real, meaningful character development that feels human. People don't change overnight, but they're built by their experiences over time.

I wouldn't say so, user. Consider that Ichigo managed to perform a special appeal in his very first audition, something that impressed even Mizuki herself. Then she became a movie star, the darling of a coord brand's top designer, and an idol only second to Miyuki. And all that within a year and with no previous training. Good genetics helped, no doubt.. Considering all that, Mana does seem the closest equivalent to Ichigo in terms of being broken/OP.

As much as people love to say it, Mana's OP accomplishments are all comedic. In her first episode, her amazing feats are that she runs up a hundred flights of stairs, jumps three times her height straight up, then gets whacked by a crap monster and sent flying a dozen meters into a metal rail. She doesn't even get to kill the first monster.

If we're comparing super-special-protagonist-privilege-ness, Hana or Haruharu are closer to Ichigo in that respect. Not that they're all that OP, but neither is Ichigo really.

I'd say her most amazing feat from episode 1 is approaching a rampaging Jikochuu as a civilian and nonchalantly scolded it for misbehaving. The Jikochu was so surprised that it froze for a moment.

I thin that scene illustrates Mana's identity as a character very well. If you have watched enough PreCure shows you expect certain scenes to play out in certain ways, and the Pink to react in certain weeks as well. Mana ignores many of those tropes/clichés, and she does so in such a way that you as the audience end up thinking that no matter how bad things are, Mana will fix it.

Regarding Haru, she's pretty broken herself. She's a ridiculously fast learner.

That's not an OP accomplishment, it's a standard Pink thing to do by now. Megumi and Haruka did the exact same thing the next two years after Mana.

The ending was more of the "Oh Mana-sama please save us, you're better than we, you deserve to kill the MotW each time and get a harem of girls" shit all the season had. Plus the fight with ProtoJikochu was weak and full of asspulls, Mana should've had her heart taken away for a good chunk of time and purified by her team, not regaining control with the power of the heart.

The ending would have been great if they worked together as a team instead of Mana getting all the glory.

They're pretty much the same. If I recall, HaCha's final fight doesn't even have a reason why Megumi solos it (like with everyone else powering Heart up), she just does because Pink. I vaguely recall in GoPri's case that the other Cures ostensibly stay behind doing something, but also that it's plainly a transparent plot excuse to have the Pink solo.

Close was more like a "post-game boss" rather than the final boss imo.
Also KiraKira had a team battle, Hugtto too to a certain extent even though the final arc revolves around her but there was a lot of build up and foreshadowing for that.

With Mana the rest of the cures just stepped aside while Mana was doing everything, didn't even tried to help her and when she was out it was the "MANAAAAAA!" cheer squad, the whole ProtoJikochu's motive was to prove that being selfish was better. I legit don't remember GoPri.

Nah, Red was established as someone since way before. If Red was something abstract like anger and jealousy then the avatar of it possesing Seiji would make him effectivelly the final boss. He's just the gatekeeper boss.

Have you watched HeartCatch? HappinessCharge has a similar feel to it, Hime is one of my favorite Precure characters even though some of the decisions to where story goes after the second half are a bit questionable.
GoPri is overall a pretty solid season though, don't be intimidated.
