Not anymore.

Yes.

Your mom is mainstream

i hoped the rise of loli anime would prevent that

Not really

Explain yourselves

Anime is not watched by masses.

UN still tries to ban anime with the way they handle women and children in their works so there is that

Hopefully not

Faggot and I hope you get banned

I know you faggots don't go outside or have any friends but I don't know a single person under the age of 20 who does not watch anime

You live in Akihabara or something?

>Anime is not watched by masses
Mainstream is not literally "practiced by half of the world's population". If it is a well known activity and it's watched by normalfags, then it's mainstream.

Depends on the genre and local population surely

Anime is far away from being this

If you are talking about massively popular shonen adaptations like Shingeki no Kyojin or Hunter×Hunter 2011, big-budget original action anime like Cowboy Bebop and Madoka Magica, universally aclaimed movies like Ghibli's Miyazaki movies and Akira or cultural juggernauts like Naruto, yes, you are right.
If you are talking about mainstream and extremely memed seasonal anime, you are also right.
But your average anime watcher doesn't know about what even Space Battleship Yamato is, think that MS Gundam is about big sentient robots fighting for the destiny of the universe and that EVA was the first dark mecha anime.

HxH and Madoka are popular in the anime scene, but outside of it, not really. That's more stuff like DBZ, Naruto and Miyazaki movies.

mainstream anime is mainstream

One could argue that watching Ghibli is exactly that.

Couple of movies are not enough. You don't see people talking about the latest episode of a seasonal anime on the streets, do you?

Pokémon is anime, good luck finding a majority of people who think having watched pokémon is abnormal or unconventional.

No, anime such as uzamaid is not mainstream but the medium as a whole definitely is.

Pokemon is not anime.

but that doesn't mean anything lmao. Nobody would say vidya isn't mainstream just because normalfags know about CoD or FIFA but not Gothic or Deus Ex
Movies, games, music, a lot of mainstream mediums have a less known "niche" side to them. Most people know what Dragonball is regardless of country

Rather read manga than play TF2 desu.

Did you understand what I said, even?
I'm not talking about "niche" media or whatever, what I'm talking is that your average anime watcher, a very big medium-based community, doesn't know too much except these isolated chunks that they are constantly exposed.
For example, the fact that Yamato is not very know and discussed in the normalfag anime community doesn't make it "niche" in any way, as is a very influential and successful show of the 70's, a era that normalfag are not exposed at all.
I am talking about exposition and consumption, not exactly of "niche" appeal or whatever you mean with this post, dear user.

>relevant

Oh yeah? Well I don't know a single person under the age of 20.
