As someone who still actively follows Pokemon, I've been saying for months now you could tell that the writers just didn't care about doing the League and likely only did it because they probably got mandated from above that they had to do it.

SM overall was far more interested in doing SoL an comedy stuff.

They were easily better than anything from SM

XY was pretty enjoyable. Had some great battles. Ash-Greninja vs Mega Sceptile is widely regarded as one of the best battles in the entire series.

Its not without its own flaws, of course, but it was probably one of the more enjoyable seasons.

I think practically everyone except the "Pokemon ended after Kanto because muh childhood" crowd considers DP and XY the pinnacle of the Pokemon anime.

The only decent battle from SM I can think of is Ash vs Misty. Everything else, I can think of anything decent. Like for whatever reason, a lot of the Guzma fights just refused to show moves making physical contact and instead did a flash of a blavk screen which was really jarring. Probably happened in other battles too but the Guzma ones sticks out the most.

That's not really much of an accomplishment. The animation in XY is nice most of the time but the actual battles and tactics are pretty unimaginative.

Gladio VS Kaki was pretty all right.
